I'm a TA old timer....

I never use the damn "repeat on" function of a factory...

I'm FORCING myself to get used to using it, and its helping, but often times I forget, I've got built in habits from YEARS of playing, nearly a decade now.. of queuing 3 cons, 2 light tanks, 1 missle, 1 scout, 1 AA, 2 battle, 1 con, 3 missle, 5 light tanks, 1 con, 5 battle, 3 aa, 3 missle... and a few other odds and ends... in the specified orders..

its all habit... and I've grown VERY VERY good at managing entire armies, entire build orders, etc, everything... the old way.

then I get beat by a 13 year old punk kid talking trash just cause he started and learned the more "efficient" way... urgh.

thats my mistake,
H A B I T.

but yeah, on the self-d jabber....

I use more or less generic rule of thumb.
If my main battleline, d-line, resource, or LRPC/NUKE hail storm... is 1 to 15 or worse.. outnumbered to his..

I'll push ONE or maybe 2, HARD fights after prime targets... and after I've extinquished the last of my attacking forces, attempting to cripple a VERY strategic target, and "still fail" (if I fail...) I'll let his attacking line, (god willing he actually f'ing uses it... when a player never attacks me when I'm weak.. just pisses me off to no other, JUST so that they can have 238956237842364734685^16 metal income and 40 vulcan cannons, 40 nuke silos and 5,000,000 krogoths.. and then .. 6 hours later.. sweep me off of my 1/5th the map in one foul swoop.. is well, frankly, insulting. ) but anyways, when he attacks, I'll let him smother about 2/3'ds of whats left of my base, call good game (or inform my allies of whatever I can to help them), and detonate whats left (or give it away), bow out, and spectate the rest. :P

Sending one conbot to the corner of the map to start a new base isnt going to win you the game, unless you clearly know how you are going to win the game with that new base.

I disagree to some extent.

back abut 6 years ago playing OTA on msn zone. 3 way ffa. My entire base and everything gets destroyed save for 1 con plane. It was on one of those crystal water maps.

3 hours later I won the game. Piranha's levithans, and melleniums(whatever core's equivalent is) ftw.

Was it worth it? Definately. Do I ever expect it to happen again? Not in a million years ;p

The point is, a little determination goes a long way.

I think of the game as a liniar. IE, how much time it would take me to get done what I currently have from the start of the game. Loosely speaking, if my perception of my liniar time effective value is 3 times outnumbered by my opponent (he has 45 minutes worth of ingame work to show for and I have only 15 because he's destroyed the rest of it) Then I end the game and stop wasting both of our times. He has MORE then reached a point where the game is unwinnable by me, and I have no doubt of that. There's no honor in making him hunt for dragon's eyes.

Lordmatt: I've won several games with comm bombs as well, but it wasn't because I would have won anyways and was just being a dick to my opponent, it was because he made the mistake of making some part of his base severly vulnerable to comm bombs. I've wiped out a few front lines entirely by spotting a comm in d-gun position of my main forces and dropping my own comm right on him. All in all I consider keeping your comm on your front lines a very bad move.

Now think about practically waiting for THREE HOURS.
Was it really worth it for the other players?

I was refering to games I would probably have lost, but regained the advantage by using a combomb. Also, hosts who refuse to change limited dgun setting often get combombed at some point in the game, regardless of who is winning. :P There's nothing wrong with commander out front IF you are spending your time microing him, and you know what you are doing. However, it is generally not appropriate in 1v1s on any but the smallest maps.

Oh, and Dragon sux. :-)

I'm good at it, and when I do it, some people tend to throw temper tantrums (not you comp1337) that I com-bombed their secretly built annihilator that they sooo wasted all of their effort to rush forward, on the outskirts of my own base thats popping everything I own 1 shot at a time.. and their ENTIRE defense is around it, along with their own comm... leaving them 100% offsenseless and about 80% defenseless... and me with well more than half my still-standing army, and nearly all of my defense..

ooh no, I used a comm strategically as a weapon, instead of letting you use him as a target to bomb me with...

isn't this game a real time strategy? isn't a walking nuke, a one change bomb, a bit of a strategy? its kinda like the queen on the chessboard, with it, you can be fearsome, used properlly, you'll win the game, let it die without a cause, and yer fucked.

blah, its part of the game, and to the whiners, take off the sissy panties and put on some big boy shorts...

Now what, exactly, were your enemies doing in those three hours? ...fighting each other, I suppose. An FFA where there are still fights going on is different, simply because you are not extending the game with your stubbornness. Since I rarely FFA I don't really think about them much...

Nah they twiddle thumbs and occasionally explore the endless depths of their nasal cavities... but an FFA taking this long while still being interesting is amazing.

My biggest mistake is probably leaving idle cons everywhere and neglecting my economy building - that and wasting 10 minutes of my life reading the psuedointellectual drivel posted in the "real war protest thread"

^^
