Defently needs more Wii and possible other consoles.

I'm camping tomorrow for the Wii at like.. 3 PM 'til 12:01, when they start selling. I think FPS games for the Wii will be the best... I can't wait to get COD3 for it, I hope it has Wifi...
"Wii the play Wii!"
Edit: The wiimote is NOT a gimmick. Some things would be impossible without it, like shooting a bow on horseback. That is going to be fun, can't wait for LOZ: TP, either. I saw that Wolf jump on a creature and rip the hell out of it, muahahaH!

/me laughs loudly at those saying the controller isn't a gimmick...
You'll have to try a bit harder to convince me otherwise
(dont get me wrong its an interesting concept and a cool idea but its 100% gimmick)

The new Wii controller isn't so much a gimmick as it is a new way to interact with games.
Much like the first controller for nintendo's wasn't a joystick on a box with a button on top. People thought those were a gimmick too.
Actually nintendo is the reason for many of the physical innovations of consoles. Aided by the first 2 playstations and the innovations of the xbox.
You should really do some research into the construction of the Wii controller. It's quite cool and definately innovative.
The fricking gun for the nes and duckhunt was a gimmick, but you went out and bought one didn't you?
BTW on an offtopic note, rambo for the original genesis was made of win.

Holy shit!
I have played the Wii for the last... 3? hours!
The controller is extremely innovative, and adds a new level of skill and challenge. Fighting with that rotten german in the beginning of the COD3 was hell! I was huffing and puffing afterwards! I think they really wanted you to experience what a real soldier has to go through in that game. I wonder if the PS3 and X360 versions were easier, probably.
Nothing cooler than swinging your right hand or flicking your wrist and watching Link pull off an attack. Or aiming at something with a sling shot.
It isn't a gimmick, because the Wii would be another gaming system if it didn't have it. It doesn't increase the appeal, or attract attention. It makes it a lot funner, though.
It's a not-so-subtle way to get gamers off their ass! I swear!

It's not that it's of no practical use, it's that they are basically basing the entire appeal of the console on that single element, and really, all that element is is a change to the common gaming interface, which is cool/good for some games, most notably FPS IMO, but for others will either amount to no difference, or actually more difficulty playing.Kixxe wrote:You know, usaly when something is gimmicky it's just a said feature that dosen't serve no pratical use. The Wii controller offer pratical use if used correctly. So keep calling it gimmicky and i'll consider it as if you said it has no pratical use.
It also really doesn't help that the PS3 basically could use a wii mote if one was made for it, they have the interface hardware in place, they just have the giro attached to a PS3 controller where it's fairly useless compared to at the end of a remote/wand as in the wii.
The Wii adds the IR sensor that can see where you're pointing the thing and both the remote and nunchuk can sense motion.SwiftSpear wrote:It also really doesn't help that the PS3 basically could use a wii mote if one was made for it, they have the interface hardware in place, they just have the giro attached to a PS3 controller where it's fairly useless compared to at the end of a remote/wand as in the wii.
Of course the interface could probably still handle it, most likely it can accept an arbitrary number of input channels but the biggest problem with controllers added later is that they never reach widespread adoption. With the Wii a developer knows the user has a remote, with the PS3 he has to assume the user has the threeaxis and can only add remote functionality as a secondary input method which won't allow games to rely solely on that.
Another point is that the Wii is attempting to simplify the user interface, that would fail if the default interface still had 16 buttons.
