I just tried Wii sports an hour ago. It was great, but the one of the remotes stopped working for a while... but a restart fixed that. I hope it's reliable and dosen't stop working when playing Zelda or Red Steel...

No, they will be stable and efficient still.El Capitano wrote:Lindir, don't get your hopes up. The PS3 is such a radically different architecture that you won't get Windows running on it any time soon, not even with WINE. Also, don't get carried away with the "OMG supercomputer" hype. The Cell is powerful, yes, but it's utterly crap at running general purpose code. Also, quad-core will be entering the mainstream before too long and that will drive down the prices of dual-core CPUs until they effectively become the Semprons/Celerons of today.
Lack of branch prediction, the asymmetric design (1 general purpose processors + 6/7 stream processors), lack of out-of-order execution, to name a few.Lindir The Green wrote:What would make the Cell so bad at general purpose code?
It's extremely unlikely. First of all, there's the issue of porting WINE over. Then, there's the issue of empulating x86 on the Cell. Then, there's the simple fact that performance will suck to the point where a cheap PC will do the job better. After all, it's still years away and PCs have already overtaken the XBox 360 and PS3 in power (general purpose, that is).Yeah, the problem would be issues with windows compatibility... But I suspect that eventually someone will make a windows emulator for the PS3.
Sony have fucked up this generation something rotten. Even if it got 90% market share, Microsoft wouldn't port Windows simply because its aiding their competitor. It would be cool if there came out a PS3 version of Windows Vista in a few years. I wonder if the additional revenue from selling more copies would offset the additional cost of making it compatible... Probably not. It would depend on how popular the PS3 is.

Worldwide Hardware Sales (End of September 2006)
PS2 - 111.25 million

GameCube - 21.2 million
Xbox 360 - 6 million

Yes, as usual, these are all official manufacturer shipment figures.

If you read their financial reports you'll also see that Sony's shipments are production shipments, that is every unit shipped from the factories. Even the ones currently stored in warehouses count, not just the ones "sold" to retailers.

Yeah, Sony sales figures look to be inflated by 25% or more, atleast. Makes you wonder about not only PSP sales, but also PS2.

Are those numbers misleading or has the PSP really shipped 19 million units?

Sony has manufactured 19 million PSP's, essentially. They could be sitting anywhere. Sony doesn't care, as long as it fluffs up their numbers.
