How are you converting the terrain maps from that site? they come in a terragen format that terragen says is an old format, the other format needs Lightwave V3.5 to decompress but that version can`t be got :x
why they don`t offer a .bmp or something is beyond me..

I should qualify that by admitting I don`t really know what Im doing. :|

I'm not converting heightmaps from terragen files

they have greyscale heightmap images in zip files, (although they're not bitmap files) use paint shop pro or photoshop to convert them to bitmap

Looks good but some things could be improved..
Needs to be a bit bigger, judging by how one commander makes saudiarabia look like a tiny blip.

You could try blurring it a bit too and then running a black and white detailmap not to loose detail, this would make the texture a bit nicer.
You might want to rework the mountains too so they look more realistic, otherwise fine can't wait to try it out!

ok hows this for a size 256x128.
Can spring handle that?

problem is someone will have to render a 131072x65536 image or 131072x131072

cos I got a 16384x8192 heightmap data for earth just waiting to be used to it's full scale

TARevenger that earth heightmap would be SOO cool. Let's make a campaign where you progress across the face of the earth!
