You all know my political views, now I'd like to know what everybody voted!

Edit: Correction, everybody but Geno001 knows my political views. :P

I'm with the "Mustaches for america" party, one that i just made up, voting on hairlines and facial hair. I believe that the amount of facial hair determines your ability to rule, thereby limiting those who should be in power to men, or manly women.

(if you believe this, you'll believe many other things! Just ask me!)

My parents voted no on pretty much everything, becuase they said that most of the bills were poorly written and short sighted.

Should've split the "too lazy" and "can't vote" options so we can tell how many are lazy vs. simply not allowed to vote.

And this comic made my day:

I voted, but not a party line. I guess that makes me "independent"?

In fact, for those who are interested, here's a breakdown of how I voted:
Governor of Florida: John Wayne Smith, NPA (no party affiliation), a libertarian.
Attorney General/CFO/Agriculture Commissioner: Democrats on all three because I thought they were better qualified.
US Senate: Bill Nelson, Democrat.
US House of Representatives: John Mica, Republican. (He has the peculiar honor of being the only US Representative from Florida to get the highest score possible from the American Conservative Union.)
Courts: Voted to retain all justices up for election, and voted for Luis Bustamante for the district something-or-other court of appeals; court races are non-partisan but Bustamante is affiliated with Charlie Crist, the Republican candidate for Governor.
County Commission: Voted for the second candidate on the ballot in all races except for one. There was one unopposed race, so I wrote in myself on principle.
Anastasia Island Mosquito Control District: Tim Chiu, because he bothered to make a sign. (Yes, we elect our mosquito control supervisors. I suppose that's the local version of the dog-catcher!)

Florida Constitutional Amendments
Amendment 1 - Would require state legislature to develop a long-range budget each year; would cap the amount of money from one-time "windfall" income sources that could be spent on recurring expenses to 3% of total revenue. Yes

Amendment 3 - Would require 60% voter approval to approve future constitutional amendments. (Currently requires a simple majority.) Yes

Amendment 4 - Would require the Legislature to spend at least 15% of the $470 million Florida receives from tobacco companies each year as part of their settlement on anti-tobacco education programs. No

Amendment 6 - Doubles the homestead tax exemption for low-income seniors from $25,000 to $50,000. Yes

Amendment 7 - Would give disabled military veterans who were Florida residents when they entered military service a property tax discount equal to the percentage of their combat-related disabilities. Yes

Amendment 8 - Would ban the use of eminent domain to transfer homes or property to private developers. Yes

...there you have it.

I'm too young, but I did the kidsvoting thing at my school

HATCH
GOVERNOR

I didn't care about most of the other races much, as... my vote really doesn't count. So I went straight Democrat because I agree with many/most official Democrat positions, and really really disagree with almost everything I saw in the official Republican pamphlet thing at the State Fair.

I also voted

YES to a constitutional ammendment to dedicate the money gained through car taxes to at least 40% public transportation and not more than 60% for highway construction. It was a hard call, because voting yes takes some money away from public education... But I'm too much of an environmentalist to say no to public transportation.

YES to a temporary property tax increase for public schools. I go to a public school, and we're always strapped for cash. Except for the property taxes are already increased. So it was really just a NO to a property tax decrease that cuts school funding.

And then some things that are only on the kidsvoting ballot, such as:

I DO NOT think that banning sugary pop and candy makes me healthier in body and mind. It really bugged me when they removed the vending machines. Now if I'm hungry I have to walk to Burger King, instead of supporting my school by buying cheap convenient pop and candy.

edit/PS:

I have several friends who took advantage of the lack of supervision in the voting room and voted like 10 times. I should have done that too... especially to show my contempt for the last question.

yeah i know that feeling lindir. Back in my seinor year ('04) the school went on a health frenzy and got rid of "junk food" in the snack machines and snack line. most of it got substituted with health foods like cheese stick, pita chips, health drinks and all this other bull. Unfortunately i think thats gonna be the standard quo since America if freaking out about its weight problem. And when america has a problem, they always have to "save the children" first :P

There's nothing wrong with moderate amounts of unprocessed cheese. of course eating large amonts of cheese on it's own is bad cause of the fat content but it's still better than eating crisps for example.

edit: In fact america, like the UK should impose healthy food on school kids. Kids in many many western countries are overweight, and it doesn't help when schools serve rubbish.
Not only that but many foods (especially healthy ones) are acquired tastes (often taking 3 or more exposures before being found activly enjoyable) and as most kids have the forward thinking abilities of a goldfish the only way to get them to eat healithly is to give them no choice.

Unsurprisingly healthy school dinners lead to improved educations due to better concentration (amongst other benifits).

Yes. I am a bit of a health-nazi, but with damn good reason.

Just to hijack this a little, but I must agree with Deathblane. Many school kids in the UK are so malnourished and permanently constipated that they can only crap once a month or less. Their vomit is practically fully-formed feces. They never eat fruit or vegetables. Never. School food is a health risk. If they want to impose good food on the kids, all the better. Because the parents are too ignorant and the kids even more so. They will glady eat themselves to death.

About the election: good stuff. Let's hope it goes well.

Very amusing: right wing blog comments!
"Now the turrists are gonna attack! America is gonna be sorry for voting Dem!"
"They're gonna take our guns away!"
"They're gonna turn the US into a european communist state!"
"God help us, America is lost"
Posing pictures of cheering Palestinians and writing "terrorists all over the world are celebrating with the democrats"
"The main stream media has killed America"
"Fox is in bed with the democrats"

etc.

Amazing. Amazing how full of crap people can be

I cant vote, but i was disappointed that referendum I didnt go through (im in colorado). It would have give basic rights (hospital visits, tax stuff, etc) to domestic partnerships.

I really hate the two party system. It so bogus. I was listening to the radio this morning and everyone acts as though its a war between the democrats and republicans. "We've got work to do, there's a wind blowing and it isnt a friendly one!"

The way to prevent crazily polarized two party systems is to switch to instant run-off voting.

Which Minneapolis I believe just did 8)

But only for city council and mayor and stuff, and St. Paul didn't do anything like that :(

About the health thing:

I do not mind the school offering the option of eating healthy food.

But I do however mind the school banning the sale of pop or candy, defined as anything with more than 7 mg of fat or a slightly larger amount of sugar.

I am skinny, and when I get hungry I do not want to eat a carrot. I would rather have like a candy bar or something.

Fortunately, there are several people illeigally selling pop. And I, as well as many of the teachers, heartily support them. Bollocks to the rules. Can't stop, won't stop, muthuf-ers. w00t for literary references.

If your skinny, eat more protein (meat, mushrooms, beans) and starch (potatoes, grains). If you want quick suger eat sweet fruits such as bannanas or grapes.

You only need fat and suger if you induldge in large amounts of strenuous exercise (and no, a school sports session or lunchtime football does not count).

As you are still young their is a fair chance the your metabolism will burn up excess fat and suger, so you might not get fat.
But you will still start to raise your cholesterol and give yourself suger highs where you can't concentrate, and lows where you don't want to.

Actually, even when you DO participate in a lot of highly strenuous excercise (for me, XC running, nordic skiing, cycling, triathlon), sugar is the enemy. If you eat it before working out, you crash halfway through the race, since your body starts burning *everything* it has at a higher rate, allowing you to be very fast for a short time, but totally wipe out afterwards. If you eat it afterwards, when your muscles crave things with which to replace its glycogen stores, you'll end up filling them with short-burning stores, which are easily depleted on your next workout (or even just walking around)

Fats are alright, but its better to eat a lot of complex carbs (whole wheat/grain foods - NOT white pasta/starchy stuff) and protein (meat, dairy, nuts, ect) - those are what help your muscles recover, make you stronger, and give you energy. Of course you need some fat, but you usually end up getting that without trying - the trick is to avoid super sugary things while still getting the carbs and protien you're looking for.

Which can be hard when you're trying to maintain the high-calorie diet that athletes really need - ~3000-4000 calories a day in my case.

Uh. Sorry for the mini-essay.

Yeah, I voted Dem.
