Upspring & Hierarchies

Post by Wolf-In-Exile »

I've tried all sorts of roundabout exporting methods from Max, but all the pivot points and hierarchies keep getting reset through the import/export process.

As I understand it from bobthedinosaur, having to manually re-do the hierarchies and pivot points is really tedious, so is there a way to export a model with its hierarchies and pivot points intact?

I can think of a way, sort of. If you can export it to .lwo (Lightwave), then you can import it into old 3DO Builder. Then save as 3DO, open with Upspring, save as s3o. This way hierarchy should be preserved.

I have found that exporting 3DS files works somewhat, however it's not terribly reliable. Personally, I just do the model/skin and then do the hierarchies in UpSpring... with the new tools in 1.42, it's really not very hard, and it keeps things simple.

Now its really easy to do in UpSpring, used to be a pain...

For me, i just use the .s3o exporter for max 7 and export it all by "export selected". I make the hierarchy and the pivot points in Max already and then i use upspring to fix mirrored objects by flip all polygons. Works like a charm.. however i had to get max 7 to make it work. If you'd like i can make a detailed guide with pictures

yuritch, I tried your suggestion, not luck. Resulted in a mess of polygons all over the place lol. :?

Argh, was trying to eliminate the need for that (editing the hierarchies and pivots in UpSpring) cause its alot easier to do it in Max. :P

centurion-1, so you don't have to import the model piece by piece?

And yes, would appreciate it very much if you did that, thanks. :-)
