PSU don't really have a quality factor, they don't improve performance in any way, they either work or they don't. Use the PSU that comes with the case, it will do fine. Take the money you saved and buy a universal power supply instead. 4 years down the line when the PSU you bought with the case goes you won't really care about replacing it anyways.Snipawolf wrote:Meh, the person who recommended the case said that the power supply that comes with it is shit, and I am going to get a long lasting PSU.. oh my effin god... umm.... wow...
let me find some reviews for you... the 12+V rail NEVER NEVER EVER is worth a crap on generic PSU's and frankly, if you push the voltage on the processor up by ~10% to overclock it... (like he said he wanted to do)... YOU WILL FRY YOUR BOARD, CPU, and the ram....
they all run off the 12V rail, and frankly, I'd rather not see him do that... not to mention he has plans to put LOTS of components into the system... it'll NEED over 500w of power.. hell the videocard alone will need a dedicated 100 watts.. NOT TO MENTION the CPU at a 350 watt need... then what about each 15 watt fan? the 50 watt drives? etc? He's gonna need 600+ watts EASY!...

but yeah here... this is A DATABASE of reviews, comparisons, pricing charts, and explinations:
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854
there's TONS of important stuff in there.. TONS!! whatever you do, DO NOT JIP OUT ON YOUR PSU!!!! oh man, wow, thats the worst advice in the thread..
Power enchancement devices oooooooooo fancy and purdy... bit overkill in my opinion though

lets just say, if it takes 30 seconds to load a 800mb file on your drive with the normal HDD, the raptor can do it in ~11 seconds...Muzic wrote:Is there even a noticeable difference when using a raptor?
that means, when you game pauses all the time and stutters for like 1/4 a second at times for loading pauses, the raptor will effectively pull that down to 1/12 second pauses, and with two raptors in a raid, it'll knock it to nearly a 1/24 second pause, (hardly noticeable) not to mention with 4 raptor drives those 60 second loading times, lol, get knocked to 10 second loading times... and the pauses, are in the ms range.. (1/48 ) second..

so yes, it is noticeable... very.

Was that directed at me or him?
And apparently moving about 1.5 gb/s is incredibly fast, so raptor is a good choice..

it was directed at both of you...
but get the seagates...
if you want to compete with the raptor.. 2 seagates is the same price, and a still faster!!
if you put 4 seagates, vs the 2 raptor setup, the seagates, are faster by quite a bit, and are MUCH cheaper..
but... on the otherhand.... if you put 4 raptors together, lol, nothing is gonna compete, but thats 600$ in harddrives..
GET THE SEAGATES!!! trust me..

So if i put 2 of these

In raid 0 will there be a noticeable faster loading time :O?
Curious cause a brother of mine decided to order one to shoot in my rig. If its not a difference i will give it to my other brother : P

500W is more then enough for his system. The CPU socket can't even pull more then 150 watts of power, and with a 500W PSU video card usage of 100W is more then sufficient. PSU Calculator Granted it's a bit outdated but I still couldn't force it to use more than 500W with alot more hardware then it going to be in snipe's PC.LathanStanley wrote:SwiftSpear wrote:PSU don't really have a quality factor, they don't improve performance in any way, they either work or they don't. Fans use no where near 15 watts.
The only thing you're right about here is that he may need the better PSU for safe over clocking, although really, over clocking is never perfectly safe. Unless you have the money to replace hardware that fails or the know how to see all the warning signs I wouldn't recommend over clocking much anyhow.
That first article is useless, he's clearly a sales representative. Generally speaking PSU's that run over 500 wattage are only useful for extremists and servers, normal PCs simply can't use that much wattage. A $1500 machine is pretty close to the point where I don't think obsessive power application is necessary. Any more and I'd say definitely yes, any less and I'd say definitely no, that one can really go either way.
New Information: Going to get it upgraded in a week or so, so I probably only need a new mobo, gfx card, and processor, maybe even a new hard drive... 10,000 rpms.. MMmmmm...
Edit: Got it "upgraded" today, got 512 mb of RAM, have no idea why it says I have 1400 something, when I should only have 1000 something, oh well free ram... Going in next week for the geforce 7600*
*It better not be a GS damnit!!!

Only 512, isn't that a bit too little for today's standards?Snipawolf wrote:New Information: Going to get it upgraded in a week or so, so I probably only need a new mobo, gfx card, and processor, maybe even a new hard drive... 10,000 rpms.. MMmmmm...

And are you sure you were looking in the right place? Sounds more like virtual memory (free phyiscal memory + free swap file).
To get the ram count imply right click on the "My Computer" icon and go to the Properties tab, should say how much you got. Or take a look during boot (hit pause when that ascii box shows up, shows what ram banks are occupied and more, use space to continue). Lastly you could take a look at the task manager where it says total real memory.
SON OF A BLOODY NUGGET IN HELL!!!
THAT PISSES ME OFF SO BAD!
The card they had ordered for me was refurbished.. It was supposed to be BRAND NEW! It had its processor unglued and half-way disconnected from the card! AAAARRRRGGGHHHh!
I wish i could find out their "distributor's" name... I would give him a piece of my mind....
