Plasma repulser

Post by SJ »

I got a little tired of fixing bugs and wanted to do something silly to show what is possible with the source code. So I moded the arm targeting facility to become a plasma repulser. See the download page for a video of it in action.

This wont be included in the next release but the weapon tags will be there if someone want to create their own version.

I want to make a sheild building, whitch would realy be a weak building that sucks a fusion reactors worth of energy and blow's up real big and it will have the cool plasma repulser tag. But im just wondering WHERE is the tag located in the source code, so that i can add the unit.

I doubt it is in the source code, most likely it is in the FBI file.

WOW that's great! will it work on other types of weapons too?

It reminds me of scorched earth's magnetic shield type thing.

OOOHH I just saw the video and it's even cooler than I imagined!

Instead of an ablative wall of energy it's a field-effect, sort of like a magnetic repulsion for plasma projectiles!

One thing though, does the constant/cumulative manipulation of trajectories cause any lag?

Amazing.

I wonder how long it is before theres some mods for it

Ooh, very spiffy. I like the fact that you can add animations to the weapon projectiles; that opens up a number of doors.

It's going to be fun seeing what kind of crazy stuff you can do with plasma cannons and a lot of those repulsers.

An example would be to shoot plasma into a horseshoe of them. Who knows, it might eventually come back at the cannon!

So how long until the next release? I need that...

And can the strength of the field be modified, like to the point where it causes hard trajectory changes (instead of all that slow suff).

Or maby their could be the flip side, like a Plasam Atractor or Accelrator. Then you can fire an indimidator then boost the distance of the shot by atractin the shot and then repulsing it quickly, makeing a slingshot like thing. Mmmm Rail gun...

I suppose it would become an attractor if you set the force strength to negative.

before everyone starts to laugh... an attractor could be a good idea - You attract loadsa plasma to the thing (which would have massive HP) so that it doesn't hit other stuff.

Can multiple deflectors affect a plasma ball at once? could we build them in a triangle shape over out bases so that plasma shells ricochet along them to fall harmlessly behind our bases?

Can someone make attractors and deflectors so we can make sure the ricocheted plasma balls land exactly where we want them?

Definately the funkies development that I've seen, btw

What about units that take the plasma and use it as a shield of sorts by making them orbit the unit then fling them off at the enemy when in range..........
