Naruto turned kindergarten with the latest filler arc shiit. I mean, Bleach is running a filler arc, but at least it doesn't last forever and it is still entertaining to watch. Once Bleach gets back to Hollow arc, itll kick ass.

Right now: Patlabor and Dead Leaves.

I thought after seeing Gungrave ep.1, that "omg this is so cool" but after having realized that ep1 (and the other one) was the only good episode, I was kinda disappointed.

Why do i have the feeling that anime is soap opera for men? They seem flashy but they get tiresome quick enough because of their repetitive nature.

Well the animated structure is really neat, to use the words of one of the writers of the Simpsons, "Every episode costs the same". When its animated it doesn't really matter whether your characters are on the moon, beneath the earth, underwater and so on. Each episode will probably cost about the same. So this, in turn, allows people to be creative. Yes lots of animes (just like lots of T.V shows) have a "me too!" feeling to it, like they want to latch onto something sucssessfull (reality T.V springs unbidden to my mind). But there are lots of animes that do really creative and cool things. But then again I've only seen two and a half, so I don't know much about the subject.

Because a great majority of Animes seen in the west are immature soap operas. I went to my universitys anime society the other night., afterwoods I wanted my life back.
All but one of the progams they watched were either a) Sickly sweet and aimed at pubescent teans or b) Horribly, horribly dirivative.

However pick your anime wisely (and generally watch subs) and you'll see some superlative series.

For me that entails a deep, contiguous and interesting story, engaging charecters and preferably a sci-fi or fantesy setting.

If you like gore, like I do, Elfin Lied is a good place to start. It's a sneaky show, see, starting off with action then ending on all sorts of emotional mushy stuff...<sniffle> doesn't effect me at all <sniffle, sob sob>

i don't understand dragon ball z fans
perhaps i got bored watching battle cartoon over several days
cartoon 1 day 1 muscle flex
cartoon 2 day 2 concentration
cartoon 3 day 3 KPOW!!!
cartoon 4 lamentation and promises of revenge

confusing story line, the characters were kinda cool but too many closeups over too many time

Yeah, and if at any point in the story you think it can't get any more shocking, chances are you're wrong.

I think DBZ fans are a different race entirely and should be treated as such.

Me and my Film class buddies made a DBZ commercial. It was two of us, standing opposite each other, with our clothes stuffed in pillows. We just stood there, grunting. Then one of us exploded. Then the announcer yelled: "TUNE IN NEXT TIME FOR THE THRILLING CONCLUSION!"

We got an A.

DBZ fans should have their brains removed, most of them never needed it in the first place anyway.

I begun watching Lost Universe some time ago (don't have time for it now), the first few episodes were fairly amusing.

PS: Macross rocks!

Anime suffers from the way the Japanese seem to use clichees in storytelling. It's so bad that often you can predict a "surprising" plot twist hours before it happens because that plot twist always happens in that situation. Same with RPGs. You can almost tell at the exposition which character will die to protect the others, which will defect to the other side and need a lot of reminding of the "good times you had together" to let you escape again and which character needs to sacrifice herself to rescue the world.

Oh and anime physics where automatic weapons are the most useless form of attack ever (and circlestrafing avoids every attack), where explosions only affect someone if it's a direct hit and even then fails 50% of the time, where jumping onto a tall building seems to be commonplace, where heroes always enter each battle as the weaker combatant and leave as the stronger because they had some important revelation about their ability just before they were almost killed, where people get punched through walls regularly without a scratch...

Nuh-uh.. Go play Wilds Arms 2... I cried when Brad got "Killed" detonating that nuclear plant.. Or Breath of Fire 3.. I was very disappointed when Rei and Teepo died..

Wild Arms doesn't get sold in Germany for some stupid reason. Sure, the deaths can be sad but they're still predictable as hell.

Somehow it seems to me that the average japanese story writer has different standards for subtlety than me, usually they're as subtle as an elephant strapped to a railway car. "Oh my god, Auron is undead! Oh, wait, you guys have been hitting me in the face with the most obvious clues every hour now."

Guess the average RPG hero can detect hints about as well as the average harem anime boy can tell that those girls are in love with him.

Yes most anime has the same plot.. the only relevent point for me, is whether said plot invovles giant robots or not..
