"Recreational Forum" (formerly Flamewars)
A lot of other forums I frequent have a "Flamewars" section. It's an unmoderated, unpoliced* area for forum-goers to release their tension. Oddly enough, these other forums are actually quite a bit better behaved than the Spring forums, because instead of trying to kill flames (which will never occur), everyone tells flamers etc. to "take it to Flamewars". Basically, Flamewars moves the useless/insulting/crude stuff from the rest of the forum to its repository. It's also a hell of a lot of fun to talk in.
The Spring forums needs a Flamewars section. There's a lot of tension and flaming here, and it would be nice if, instead of trying to pretend that we all love each other (we don't) and that we're all rational human beings (we aren't), we have a place in which to consensually abuse one another.
tl;dr version: we need a FYAD-wannabe forum.
*Those venturing into the Flamewars forum acknowledge and consent to the unmoderated nature of the place. Moderation would be quick to lock and delete any illegal activities, links to CP, explicity pornographic images, and the like.

An isolated flamewar becomes a test of how long the two people can bare an unfounded pointless grudge without forgetting about it or simply not being bothered.
Simply put it allows people to get tired of flaming, and its a honey trap for trollers.
Also, I'm of the opinion that boiling water under immense rpessure in a sealed capsule is not a good idea, why should it be any different with forum goers? Your simply making the problem worse and encouraging huge meltdowns which make the original flames look like a walk in a playschool at naptime.

=s? Perhaps you misunderstood me, because I was giving full support for you and the idea in that last post I wrote.
Besides I can take a hit or two on the forums, and I know better now that they dont just come from the forums but rather the most surprising of all places. I'm hardly a fragile little flower, and some of the more veteran forum goers might remember that.

Flaming and random crap happens on Internet forums. This is the way the Internet is.SwiftSpear wrote:I'm against the idea, mostly because these forums are in part an advertisement of this community and as a whole this project... I don't think sanctioned flaming is something we need here, I don't think any flaming is something we need here.
You can either play a sort of "Admin Whack-a-Mole" except without the tickets that you can turn in for prizes at the end trying to keep the forums 100% civil, on-topic discourse about worthwhile, substantial matters, or you can provide a place where people can choose to go if they feel like indulging in some random crap fun, or expressing their true feelings toward selected individuals, or expressing their love of pie and/or girls.
What if my request was for an unmoderated* forum, for off-topic, off-color, etc. stuff? It doesn't necessarily have to be named Flamewars, but that's what it's called in one other community that I'm part of. (Namely, Warring Factions, which you all should check out.) In the The Specialists forums, it was called the Recreational Forum. The idea is the same: a place for non-serious stuff.
*As before, such things as links to CP or malware/viruses wouldn't be allowed. Basically, civility/on-topicness/language/some content rules wouldn't be enforced, but legally questionable stuff would be. Also, I would propose that posting pornographic images would be banned, and people posting links to stuff not safe for work etc. would be required to preface the link with [NSFW] or some other universally recognized indicator of such status.
mm i suppose if you did want it felix it should really be somewhere away from here so its not really linked to the community, swift does have a point, it does look bad people effing and blinding ina spring related forum.
If you did sort it though, you could call it the SPRINGER something or other becasue its all gonna most like degenerate into jerry springer style arguments ^^

Changed the name, as some people were taking the "Flamewars" part a little bit too seriously.
That's the problem with this community. People take stuff so damn seriously. If I wanted to, I could have a full-time job going around and reminding people that The Internets is Serious F*cking Business when they get that way.
BTW, people, SwiftSpear has spoken. Prepare for the deluge of people who suddenly agree with him.
(god I love that site)

lol I didnt agree with him for the sake of it, I just thought he had a point, thats all no need to get uppity. If I didnt agree with him Id say so.
I still think the ideas ok, but is it really gonna let people blow off steam? in my experience it just gets more and more frustrating arguing on the net you can rarely convince anyone theyre wrong, at least on this forum anyway.
I dont think id have a particular problem with it, but I dont think its the best idea ever either, I suppose I think what im trying to say is I couldnt give a shit either way.
