New Map: Sunset Ridge

Post by SavageBT »

3 Player 8x8 Spring map showing off spring's coloured lighting/shadow capabilities and using Perlin noise for extra detail. Very pretty.
Each player gets a valley with metal and a Geothermal vent, more metal on the ridges. Some patches of trees but not clogged up.
Detail and metal patches done as discussed in the bbrot thread.

Fileuniverse is giving me "page contains no data" or somesuch so for the moment its here (18.6mb, 7zip):

i like, very atmospheric. For the next version of the map, I recomend varying the texture a bit more, even if it is only subtle. (That's why mars is so boring, because the texture barely changes)

7zip. A very powerful compression tool that whips Zip and Rar any day.

Each base starts with about +30 metal, with 3 other areas of +20 (total). Makes each metal patch much more strategic. 15 patches on an 8x8 map is a fair bit anyway.

Thanks heaps. Minimap up now.

Yeah you're probably right. Dunno if i'll redo another version of this map, but a few streaks of broken rock around the ridge would look cool if i bother.

Sorry about the 7zip, normal zip/rar was 25/23MB.

+30 per patches??? No metal patches in TA gave more than 2.5. +30 sounds like an enormous amout of metal. Even in metal map getting M isn't as easy. On the other hand I never really enjoyed maps where metal is so scarce that games are won or lost by two level 1 units. So maybe it's not bad but just different.

I didn't see that each extractor gave 10 metal.

Each base has 3 patches that give +10 each...EDIT: Sorry, I mean about 10, give or take.
Whole map has about +150 among 2-3 players, compare that to core prime.

It's not the quantity of metal wich made people Porking..it's where the metal is placed.

+30 is a lot?
give the game 1/2hour and some fusions and you'll be creating +100..
It just makes the start of the game quicker.

Besides, bulding/breaking fortresses was my favorite part of TA. My next map may have less but this shall stay. If it really bothers you play with the smd - metal extraction rates are in there and 1/3rd of the metal is outside bases.

I could be cool to have some good spot of metal in the middle to make people fight to have the best part of the map.

Indeed! I don't understand why so many people complaint about porcing... People that do porcing, usually end up loosing control of the map and loose the resources race.

Also, it delivers a good shows of metal carnage.

Yeah, highground ;) -> Radar and artillery rights.

Too right. Besides, anyone who sits fortifying in a valley while someone builds berthas/plasma batts. above them deserves what will come to them.
