Upgrading a Computer

Post by Snipawolf »

(U.S. Currency Please)

My dad gets a discount, and I can get a computer, but only from Dell... I wish I could get that custom computer.. But I can't or maybe I can...

Build My Gaming Computer The stuff that pwn listed, and the 4600+ he recommended later..

If there is any Dell Computer equivalent to that for about 1500$ or less, please tell me..

Desktop or Laptop?

I know a lot about Dell laptop computers near my price range, and I check the current prices almost daily. And my price range is <= $1500

How would we know anything about dell? does this look like dell salesman central? Knowing about dell is like being an AOL fan, you're probably banned here if you're either :P

[edit] true, laptops are different since you can't custom build them except through a manufacturer.

I would strongly recommend not buying a dell...they cut SO many corners it causes much pain for the user, especially when it comes to upgradability. When I bought mine, I was stupid enough to not buy a graphics card with it, figuring I'd upgrade later. GUESS WHAT? They didn't solder an agp port in >_<

I'm sure...the space is there on the mobo, but no slot is soldered in.

dell = shit

get on tom's hardware, build a custom machine....

I built mine for under 1,500$ and it can push 4.4 GHz, has 2 gigs of OCZ 800MHz DDRII ram, 3 Harddrives, 2 CD-ROM drives, top of the line PSU 500watt, watercooling, and a 512MB videocard.

the monitor, was a seperate purchase, so yeah, I left it out, and the prepherial stuff, keyboard, mouse, case, and floppy drive... but if you have a computer allready, it shouldn't be too hard to use those parts again.. :wink:

Go buy the parts where they are the cheapest and assemble it yourself. Why? Well Dell does have some good offers but there's always their pesky software and guarantee which comes with it, at least last time I checked and that's a good 2 years ago. Anyway, you'll probably get cheaper off doing it the hard way and you'll learn a good deal too (maybe get some help from a friend who knows how to).

Don't get dell for the lvoe of god. The cases are so small you can't fit anything over an X1600 or a nvidia 6200 in them!

And it probebly doesn't help that the heatsyncs they use on the P4 machines take up half the motherfucking case.

I think the case size depends on which model you get, and they don't sell Pentium 4s anymore.
