The ground looks a little too bland, blander then the CC spring-port.

I think I'll pass ;P.

But I can't really judge without playing, no? :P

Just wack a cloud render over it to break up the terrain (By that I mean use fill clouds in photoshop and blend it to the texture with a low opacity) and that will break it up a bit. (thats me agreeing it looks a tad bland)

::EDIT:: Oh and you flat is actully flat... cany you add some nose to the height map? That would help aswell.

Agorm, adding noise is a cheap way to fatten up a bland heightmap. Using filters like erosion etc is much better.

BTW the heightmap used for this is exactly 100% the same as Noize's heightmap.

For some reason the rendering killed my ground texture (Might have been the bump mapping... Not sure).

I'll add some variation to it tonight.

PLease release your vision of the map, competition = good!

It seems you got nearly no metal near the middle of the map, also the metal distribution is significantly different, so it will have less comet feeling, which could turn out good or bad..

A skybox would make the scenery much less depressing. It really is glum.

Make happy maps! Blue skies, all that! Yay!

pay attention... it has a skybox...

I'll rerender it tonight with a much more dimpled heightmap. SHould look real neat too. I messed with it a bit during lunch and got some really cool results.

btw battle for planet XVIIIXVIXIIXVI is really nice 1v1 map, It'd be nice to see more 8x8 1v1 maps if you ever get time to for that.

Heh, those only take me at most an hour to do. Any particular thoughts on what you would like to see? As well as climates?

I could pump out some pretty quickly, considering that rendering is what takes the most time for me and I can render a map that small in about 20 minutes.

hmm what do I like about BFPXVIXIVIXVI?...

I think it has a nice mix of flat areas with hills, it's a nice looking climate, and it's pretty well balanced without being completely symmetrical. Metal is also just about perfect on that one.

Probably the biggest thing is just that it's 8x8

It's one of my favourite maps because it reminds me a lot of... *drumroll* DUNE.

I've had a lot of fun on this map too. It's good because it looks nice, terrain advanage is important, but not so much that its a porc map. As far as climates, you could mix desert with an oasis. Maybe in a large crater in the center with metal distributed such that taking the crator or the land outside (which is roughly the same height as that inside the crater, think MoonQX craters) of it is a viable strat, leaving the player to make that choice.

While I respect the effort, why bother?

I agree, which is why I scrapped the project (I was doing it so that I would have motivation to finish my lunar climate). Refer to the forum topic list for my new lunar map pics.
