Are you kidding? Your actually purposing to make a spammer a mod!? Sure he didn't start the situation, but he was instigating and not helping the matter. (The log is the older one from another thread btw). I'm curious, why him out of all the spring people.

Edit: I'll say it once again: What the lobby really needs instead of more moderators is an automated antispam bot. People shouldn't be able to fill up the channel with garbage without getting automatically muted.

Indeed, whatever fit of insanity that gripped P3374H, seems to have left him.

On the subject of moderators though, I doubt we will be getting any new one's soon, or if we do, new ones who actually care. I have tried for a long time to become a moderator because of the sheer lack of caring shown by some moderators and the sillyness that occurs in the #main; To no success, I might add...

It appears like Betalord and those incharge of such matters really dont care either.

Automation/ ignore commands are nice and all, but it doesnt help to put the fire (problem) out. All it serves is to help you ignore the flames, while they slowly grow out of control behind a wall of filters.

If you have actual human beings trying to cultivate a decent atmosphere in the main, through effective and solid moderation, it would actually spread a way of thinking which would help to clean up the current situation. Peer pressure of sorts, but directed in a way which actually helps people to learn the acceptable limits of behaviour.

Building machines, to supress and silence those who are usualy the loudest and the minority at the same time, will only just serve to further their emotional misalignment. Plus it is a very clinical way of dismissing that the other person is a human being; People deserve the same level of respect, wether they act a fool or not, and being there to tell them that what they are doing is wrong; warn them, and give them chances to change is part of that respect.

Having a computer to auto-kick and auto-ban is completely different, because we know that there isn't a distinct human entity, with feelings, beliefs, and thoughts behind its actions/words. We cannot and should not try to identify with machines, they are just tools.

I'm not trying to identify with it, just utilize it. And the problem is with 'spam' that is something that is easily detectable by a bot. If you wanted to make a valid point you could say that a bot wouldn't be able to moderate things like harsh personal insults (or other stuff that IMO shouldn't be moderated in the first place).

Besides, your point is basically bots aren't perfect moderators. I agree; obviously a mix of humans and bots is best. Humans aren't online 24/7 to catch the person who randomly spams main with 25 lines of text; and bots can't deal with personal matters.

Cup stop arguing for client side flood protection; thats essentially a band-aid instead of a permanent fix. :P

I think its been said multiple times before that campaigning to be a mod makes you less likely to be one.

theres no way we will ever have enough mods to stop all spamming, and even if you have enough mods, all i have to do is go into main type some really rasist words, copy and paste them 20 times untill auto ban kicks in...

if client side protection was there then that wouldnt be possible!

end.

Spammers actually make quite effective mods ironically from what I have seen, they sometimes even become the nazi mod variant

You see, a spammer's ultimate goal in life is to become the leader of something, anything with some power regulating over the lives of others no matter how small and insignificant. Their spamming is a cry for help and acceptance due to their frustration. Once you accept them with the granting of power you get:

Or one happens to be really bored.

I've actually founded a group (SRG) that will hopefully soon be taking a role in attempting to improve the atmosphere in the spring lobby...not sure exactly what the plan will be but I certainly hope we'll be successful.
