Hi, new member here...
Hello all,
I play games infrequently, but I do play games. And I have spent untold amounts of money to do so. I've been playing games for way too long, and way too much. I was a junkie back in the early 80's. My first computer was a VIC-20, then a C-64 (this was great for porting Atari carts). I used to buy those goofy magazines and program my own games by hand. Later I went through I don't know how many game consoles. Everything from the Atari's to the Nintendo, Turbo Graphix, SNES, PS, Xbox. You name it, I've probably had it.
Sometimes several of the same thing. In fact I still have 8 PS2's and 2 Xbox's yet. On loan to my younger brother.
In the late 80's to early 90's I got into PC's. Then by the mid 90's I was working a LOT. I mean 80-100 hours a week sometimes. Needless to say I was loaded. By 1996 I would keep abot four up to date computers at my house, networked and ready for the latest LAN game. But alas no friends. Well online came about, that took care of no friends. Then I played the constant patch and upgrade game. After I tallied what I spent in I think it was 1998 I found I'd spent nearly $5k just on various hardware, nevermind software licensing. Anyway I turned my back on PC gaming. I figured if it can't be done on a console at a decent price the heck with it. Well let's just say two years ago I found the console market to still be intellectually lacking. I've come full circle and now I play mod friendly PC games. And generally I HATE online play. I prefer to play with friends, locally. So about once every month or so we get together and have a big LAN party. Up until now it's mostly FPS. I'm okay with that, but I would like to mix in some RTS every once in awhile. Sometimes that's a problem if there are 20 or more of us together. You find yourself playing a lot of Unreal Tournament and True Combat.
So I went shopping. Low and behold I discovered TA:Spring. Imagine the awe on my face when I see it supports more than 8 players, it├óÔé¼Ôäós built to emulate the original TA classic. There are tons of mods, and it├óÔé¼Ôäós in active development. Unfortunately I still have some minor whining to contribute on this forum, but that shall be a separate thread├óÔé¼┬ª

Thanks for the welcome...and the warning :)
Actually I put all this here just so people would realize where I am coming from. I'm abnormal and I know it.
Actually I just got done posting my first "real" thread in the General Discussion area. People are going to scream in agony when they read the subject line. (But it's not what you think)
And I know this is more of a mods area. I'm here to figure out what Spring can and cannot do at this stage of development.
You see I'm only interested in playing games within the context of doing it with my friends. I'm contemplating how difficult is the task of modding Spring.

Watch out for bugs, this game is still in beta. And there seems to be a nice number of bugs out there, but, as the internet is abnormal in itself, the players don't exploit them much. Come to think of it there aren't much flame wars on these forums either.
Spring does have a lot of potential to actually do become the best RTS ever. So far I haven't found a game that matches Spring, commercial or not

If you read it and my post under general discussions you would understand all questions and statements I might make on this board have a certain context. Lan only multiplayer games....you one-handed whining discount store employee.Das Bruce wrote:Whats with the freaken biography?

No, seriously I posted this so you would understand that I don't care about online gaming, too much cheating. I don't care about singleplayer gaming. I'm a burnt out ex game junkie who only cares to play any kind of game with his friends locally. Anything else is a big waste of my time.
Frankly I don't care what anybody thinks of me, however if I am going to get help I need people to understand what I'm doing. It's fine Brucey, you don't have to read my posts. Just click on that little ignore thingy and add my name to your list.
I wholeheartedly agree. I just went browsing the SupCom forums yesterday and really it doesn't sound like it will be much different than Spring. Okay, some superhuge vehicles that can crush smaller ones, and maybe a little more eye candy. Big whoop. I'm after gameplay. I still like Netrek over many pretty looking capture the zones style games.nobody2u wrote:Watch out for bugs, this game is still in beta. As for bugs, yes. A couple of my friends got together and put four of our systems on a network and tried playing. It was a total nightmare, however that may be because we jacked every setting up to it's highest level. Not too smart. Regardless there is a lot of potential in what has been done here.

Big vehicles can crush smaller ones? that's been in our queue, as well as Kroggies being able to stomp on DTs n such for AGES now.Risasi wrote:I wholeheartedly agree. As for eye candy.... well, have you NOT seen latest version lasers?
Big vehicles too, eh? Sweet...BlackLiger wrote:

Yesterday I did see the picture posts of the latest version lasers. They look very nice. However I'll still take gameplay over eye candy any day.
Doesn't matter, I figure by the time SupCom comes out they will load it up with tons of eye candy that will beat Spring, at least for awhile. But so what? It will come at the sacrifice of bloated minimum systems requirements and less work done on gameplay. That was one reason I liked RON (In know, you'll call me names again

we can still hack that in... the invisible laser that does 99999999999999999 damage to the groups you want it to (say, you have groupds "vsmall", "small", "medium", etc.)... prob is that it isn't in sync with walk anim... guess it could jam the weapon, and unjam it when it puts down its foot, then rejam it when the foots down... although then it hits ~64 out instead of right under it...BlackLiger wrote:Big vehicles can crush smaller ones? that's been in our queue, as well as Kroggies being able to stomp on DTs n such for AGES now.Risasi wrote:I wholeheartedly agree.
