Most unis have at least one lying around; priniting costs may be 40-50$ tops, but its worth the time, frustration, and lost hair of the regular paper/folding approach.
the problem is, is that the exercise is for him to understand/learn/use UV MAPS... and to use the lazer plastic printer thing... totally loses the purpose of the project...

even if he had one available to use.. he would fail the project using it.

Well.... I have the UVS done for max, just making sure they are all scaled the same.. (I did the various parts as individual objects... so that they can print on 9.5x11 paper without screwing it all up)...

yeah.. but.. its all white still.. :P

I gotta figure out how to extract the textures from max, and spend the next few days streching/scaling them to fit on the polys right on each texture and then send the textures back to max to make sure they are right...

and THEN I have the finished cut and paste things for you guys to go cut and glue crazy and make kroggie models.. :P

unless you want them all white.. in which case you can have em VERY soon 8) soon as I compare the scales and get that right...

Update: I have it all scaled correctly and it WILL fit together... YAY! :-) ... if you want it white... I think white is lame... but yeah, if you want it... post.. and I'll draw on some "glue tabs" real fast and send it out...

if you want to wait on textures... give me til tomorrowish... maybe tonight.. I dunno... it SHOULD be done soon though, the textures aren't too bad

ok ok... the texture progress is moving along... but.. what textures should I put on the faces that cavedog DIDN'T model... (the undersides etc..) BLACK?? a best guess??

slow but steady....

Well, one thing I tried to do was to cut it into four "corners", and assemble each corner and then stick them together. It was a little easier, but right now I'm just a bit frustrated by the whole idea, so I've gone back to traditional media, as well as snazzy max renders.

My uni doesn't have a 3D printer (has a 3D scanner, oddly enough), but even if I had one available, I wouldn't pay $50 odd bucks for a model when I can make it myself, get the learning and model making skills out of it, and do it for a fraction of the price.

Besides, I am still at the refining stage of my design; I was hoping this would be a quick and easy way to assemble something accurately to get an idea of how things would fit together on my site model, etc. I've found that it definitely is not quick and easy, but it's good to know that it's there if I need it.
