Ads in the Lobby Client?

The Donation Problems are classic - we use much Bandwith, and Servers like IamaCups Group, don`t grown on Trees. Couldn`t we integrate a Ad into the LobbyClient - or at least in the Map Client. Just to finance the Servers - and deactivate the Ads, whenever the Servers are paid? At least the SM-Freaks could be usefull as Ad-Users who help the Map Servers. Remember File Universe! We need to solve this...

there isnt currently a problem. and i dont predict one any time soon.

the best thing people can do is donate webspace instead

ads in the client would be terrible.

i also, am not sure what betalord is going to do next client but i would like to see the removal of the download client and simply the ability for people to click on the ONE MAP for the game they are in and have it downloaded

this way my servers dont get people downloading maps they never play and it allows me to controll / add / dissable mirrors VERY EASILY
- for instance if a mirror is getting used alot i can turn it off.......

eg, the person clicks the download current map button or w/e, the client goes "Get a mirror from unknown-files.net/somepage.php?filename="this"" and sends it to the map directory

then people who want to download millions of maps they will never use can do it through the website.

people have lived without the map browser for this long, you really dont need it

also, we currently have 552 files, with 3272 links, at the moment were not doing to badly

, thats almost 6 mirrors per file or something.

but i would never support adverts in the client or on my website. (donate please

)

Sorry IamaCup, should have asked before posting this. It is just, well it was the Money (Hit-theAdds) Problem before with FileUniverse.. (I alway Hit this Adds for that strange GamerLobby; by the Way) and unknown-files is getting to good to not make shure that every possible risk for it`s existance is thought and fought against.

Cup just needs to add some of those nice google ads. Non offensive, all text, they don't stand out conspiculously, and if someone wants to help the site, they can do it easily. Just click em a bunch of times.

its just i hate adverts on websites lol :D

and i hate how long its taken to get the client working again mwuhahahha

The controversy over adverts was part of the reason we moved away from the file universe run system. We felt it was wiser to, rather then include adds that we don't have control over, take control over the mirror system that has our downloads pass through it. We have a fair few people who have donated web space to spring, but asside from mirroring the client download, which only accounts for a few megabytes of download a month without a more robust mirror system there isn't much we can do to use that space up.

what about simple implement bittorrent into TASpring lobby ...
everyone who runs lobby donate some B or KB of his bw ...

it's open source too, it's stable, safe and fair ...
used widely worldwide for small and big files ...

plus there is no problem add major file providers too ...
and so on ... and when i think about why not use SF for map mirroring ?
or at least map packs :)

1. People don't want to... this has been argued many times.
2. iamacup doesn't need it... did you notice how much extra bandwidth he has?

e: ok, he posted his bandwidth somewhere else. but he has a lot extra. trust me
