Its just a commercial (AKA: A way for me to play around with some ideas without actually having to do much work)

But expect a Darkside episode...by Four O'clock today, at least.

Or at least 4 O'clock by MY time. I don't know about your times....

├óÔé¼┼ôUh...Cain├óÔé¼┬Ø Keller's voice came through a bit staticy on the Prometheus's end, ├óÔé¼┼ôDon't respond to this transmission, but...we need a bit of heat taken off our back├óÔé¼┬Ø

Cain, who had been digging furrows in his arm rests with his finger nails, leaped at the chance.

Cyndie grinned. Even in her most optimistic calculations she had never expected this. Keller had made a fatal mistake when she had opened fire. He had gone for the false cover of the asteroid field. All that let her do was blow those asteroids apart, making life almost impossible in the very violent asteroid field. Now she just had to wait for the inevitable flight of the Hannibal. Or the explosion bright enough to outshine the sun for a few moments that would herald their doom.

Them she received a message from her bridge crew. ├óÔé¼┼ôMam, the Hannibal is leaving the asteroid field!├óÔé¼┬Ø

Cyanide nodded curtly. ├óÔé¼┼ôAnd mam...they have no armament├óÔé¼┬Ø

├óÔé¼┼ôWhat?├óÔé¼┬Ø Cyanide was surprised enough to say that aloud, her voice sounding odd after over two years of communicating with a small tac-con built in the back of her neck.

├óÔé¼┼ôWell...next to no armament...they have some anti-asteroid lasers, a few launch tubes. Everything else is just...gone├óÔé¼┬Ø the sensor officer's voice sounded slightly different them gunnery officer who had reported earlier.

├óÔé¼┼ôWhere did they go?├óÔé¼┬Ø Cyanide asked.

├óÔé¼┼ôI don't know├óÔé¼┬Ø the sensors officer ├óÔé¼┼ôwait...we're getting a signal. Let me patch it through├óÔé¼┬Ø

├óÔé¼┼ôWell I think I can probably answer your question├óÔé¼┬Ø A male voice came through Cyanide's ears, ├óÔé¼┼ôAnd I bet that question is 'where did the Handball's guns go?├óÔé¼┬Ø

Cyanide called up what she could find on that voice in their records. It came up as General Cain, no recorded last name. Cyanide sighed, covering her eyes, ├óÔé¼┼ôWhere is the signal coming from?├óÔé¼┬Ø she sent on a closed channel to her bridge crew.

├óÔé¼┼ôMam...├óÔé¼┬Ø The sensor officer said, sounding defeated, ├óÔé¼┼ôIts coming from behind us├óÔé¼┬Ø

The space behind the enemy fleet was empty. Then it was filled by the bulk of the Prometheus. Cyanide got the view from back camera's routed through her skull and into her eyes. She blinked. The bulbous transport ship was outfitted with every single weapon that had been stripped off the Hannibal, and then some. Missile racks. Lasers. Cannons. Mine launchers, swatters, mazers and more.

Keller grinned, looking around his bridge. There was not much to grin about in the Hannibal, as they were more then a 'little' chewed up. The bridge had taken some damage, and the crew had taken casualties. But they had survived. "Put me on with the enemy captain" Keller said.

"Cyanide" Keller's voice said. Cyanide had walked onto the bridge, mind working furiously on how to get herself out of this.

"Yes?" Cyanide said, sitting down in her chair.

"You are charged with war crimes, the destruction of civilian ships and the killing of" he brought up the information Miller had given him, "The deaths of over...sixty eight thousand civilian lives and treasonous actions that are blatant violations of the Articles of War and the Geneva Convention"

Cyanide sat in her chair, numb.

Keller looked around at the bridge crew, each of them were hooked. Their plan hadn't extended this far.

"Your sentence is death" Keller said, sitting back in his chair, "Cain...open fire".

Cain had been waiting for that order. He thumbed down on the 'kill all' switch he had spent the last few hours getting...just...right.

Simultaneously every single weapon on the Prometheus let fly. Beams lanced into the backs of each of Cyanides ships, tearing through the fragile rear armor in the backs. The Advent was the first one to go down, a nuke tearing through the rents in its back armor. The nuke detonations broke the magnetic shielding in the A/V tubes. The Advent touched off like a massive roman candle, its hull armor buckling as a shock wave riped through the innards of the ship.

Then two nukes impacted on the sides of the Ragnar├â┬Âk, blowing it in half. Mazers swept fields of Gamma Radiation through the damaged ship, killing anyone who was left there.

Cyanide felt her ship, the Ronin, tear. She closed her eyes, thinking in the last second before the A/M bottles blew open...that there was no back up copy back on Homeworld, because there was no homeworld anymore. Then the entire ship was enveloped by a cataclysmic swell of energy, heat and radiation, anti-matter converting over half of the ship into pure energy.

The remaining civilians on the Prometheus, hearing the enemy fleet was destroyed, started to cheer. That, on many levels, made Cain uneasy. "You know" Helena said, leaning against the back of his chair, "I bet that in six hounded years...we're going to be called butchers by some"

"I know" Cain sighed, closing his eyes.

"But" Helena said, forcing a smile onto her face, "I think that Cyanide wouldn't have cared. I think she would have liked to been called a butcher, actually. A butcher of unclean"

"Maybe" Cain sighed, "Maybe not"

Mike looked around his assigned civilians. They had been sitting, in tence silence, for the last few hours, with no news, no information and no other contact with...pretty much anyone. "Did we win?" One of the women asked. "What?" Mike asked.

"Did we win?" The woman asked.

"I don't know" Mike said.

Then his com link bleeped. "Stand down" a computerized voice said. "We won...i think" Mike said. The civilians looked at each other, grinning widely. "We won!" One of them shouted, "We won!". Mike sighed, sitting down. It would be hell getting these civilians back to their proper places. But Mike knew that wasn't his job. Then he realized...there was a livable planet in the same solar system. He hadn't been on a planet it what felt like ages. Mike started to grin like an idiot.

"wellllll" Lorraine said, "I've kind of been alone for over two months now. Is that curry I smell?". Keller blinked, looking at the woman. She was wearing a rather fake looking makeup that made her look rather like Lizzy.

"No...I don't know what a curry is" Keller said, sniffing the air, "But its more important that we get some information...whats been going on here?"

"Well...about a year ago this...thing showed up. Customers stopped arriving, and I waited for the shuttle that usually comes to transfer people running the shop...stopped coming. I set up a simple hydroponics set to keep me breathing and eating and sat down...and started to watch my ten thousand and one movie sets"

"Right" Keller said, "What...thing is this?"

"Its...its like Prime" Lorraine said, "Or...er...what was her name? Eve!"

Keller sat back in his chair. "So" he said, "Who is left?"

"I have no idea" Lorraine, her face clouding, "But...I don't think about that all that often"

Keller nodded, "Well I suppose we should send down some marines and check them out. You can get registration to live on the Prometheus till we settle down on Darkside...then we're going to have to set something up...but thats for a later date"

Lorraine nodded, forcing a smile to her face. "Have a nice day" Keller said. Lorraine watched him leave, wondering what she would do with the rest of her life.

"End of the road" Mankowski said, sitting next to Mike. They were both in the bar, mostly empty after the show. The Banshee duo had finished a few hours ago, and now a few stragglers remained.

"What makes you say that?" Mike asked.

"Well" Mankowski said, "The enemies are dead. Lots of friends with them. Now...now all thats left is picking up the pieces"

Mike heard the door to the bar open. He turned halfway around and looked at who had walked in. Fox stood in the doorway, looking around. "But hell" Mike said, looking at Mankowski, "Picking up the pieces can be fun"

He stood up, placing his cup on the counter top and walked to join Fox. Fox smiled at him, joining arms with him. Then they walked out of the bar, door closing behind them.

Mankowski shook his head, "What a pervert" he said, "Sleeping with a furry". But his smile showed he didn't mean it.

Mike sighed, laying in bed. Fox's hand was laid across his chest, fingernails pricking at his skin slightly. Her fur tickled all up and down his right side. "Think we can make this work?" Fox asked sleepily. "Not sure" Mike said truthfully. Fox shifted in the bed, rolling onto her back. "But" Mike said, slipping a arm around her waist and hugging her close, "I'm willing to try".

Epilogue:

"God damn it, I missed all the fun!" Vale said, holding her glass, face red with the drink and too much laughter.

"Not quite" Keller said, "If we had had any more fun then I don't think I would have survived it"

"Well" Vale said, "I hear that the colony is going to be rebuilt soon". She looked out the window. It was far from the 'lap of luxury', being made of whatever spare odds and ends they could find. No one had wanted to settle in the ruins of the prior city, and so a new colony was exploding out of the ground, put up with vigor and enthusiasm...and not much skill.

"So we have a fleet...we have eighty thousand, maybe eight five thousand" Vale said, automatically adding her crew compliment to the population count, "And a large chunk of them are marines. What are we going to do with our time?"

Keller looked at his watch, "Well" he said, "I have a son and a daughter to raise, actually".

"A daughter too?" Vale asked.

"Born three days ago...didn't I tell you?" Keller asked.

"No, actually" Vale said, "I just thought Sarris was getting fat"

Keller snorted, then stood. Vale leaned back, "Its going to be hard" she said, "Its going to be very hard"

"But" Vale said, before Keller said anything, "At least we are safe" she looked up at the Shroud. "Not really" Keller said.

"What?" Vale asked.

"For one thing your here" Keller said.

"I'm not hearing this" Vale laughed.

"Remember that time on Titan..." Keller said, grinning.

"Didn't you have a family to raise?"

Life went on. Adam watched, watched through the shroud. The colony grew, went through its upstages and downstages. People raised their children, died of old age, made scientific breakthroughs. The Shroud was understood, after a while, and put to use. Other refugees arrived, eventually. Soon the name Darkside faded from use, and in its place Homeworld floated up. For many it was homeworld, after a few generations. Adam watched.

Then he realized the Shroud was watching back. It took him a while. Quite a while, actually. Then, when he did notice, he heard the voice of the Shroud in his thoughts. "So...why did you stay behind?" the voiceless voice asked.

"Someone has to watch the show" Adam said, "And I think I, like Eve...Like Hyde...don't fit in with the others. So I suppose that...that I didn't want to go with them"

The Shroud took over a decade to reply, mulling this over. When you have a mind the size of a planet, you tended to think a bit slowly.

"Thats a good reason" The Shroud said, "It is quite a show"

Adam watched.

Mike sat on top of his house. He was begging to feel his age, slowly but surely. He looked at the Shroud. They had started to riddle it out, but it still scared him. Then a figure was beside him.

"So, Mike" Eve said, "Hows the missus?"

"Hmmm" Mike said, blinking. His mind seemed to be slowing down now adays.

Then he saw who was sitting next to him. "Eve?" Mike asked.

"I said I'd be back" Eve said, "But not for long. I've got a universe to run"

"Your running everything now?" Mike croaked.

"After a fashion" Eve said smiling.

"So" Mike said after a long pause, "How's your mother?"

"I don't speak with the dead...often" Eve smiled at the last remark, "Last time I checked...she's happy"

Mike closed his eyes, "good" he said.

"Mike?" A voice drifted up from inside his house, "Are you talking to me?"

"No, honey" Mike stood. Eve was gone, if she had ever been there, "Just looking at the stars". He dropped down to the ground, knees bending with the impacts. He straightened, creaking slightly. He turned around, looking at Fox. "Whats for dinner?" he asked.

Nice ending.

[rant]
I must say, darkside is one of your worst stories. It has to dragged on plot and things that sound... BIG suddenly are explained in a sentence like he was saying what time it is. Like the... slowing down off the Ship in darkside one? or the respawn of jason and Cynaide? You make it sound huge, and then it's like... Dues ex machina.

Also. Stop killing every charater in the story. Almost none of the orginal cast remained in the end. i can't connect with a new charater if you kill him or her after 4 chapters. And it's like swearing. Do it's all the time, and it loses all effect. Save it.. and then BAM, COCKSUCKER, and pepole get suprised shcoked and touched.

stick to shorter stories or have a general plot theme. Don't make a big deal of something small (not to ofen...) and stop killing everyone off.

After gamma, make a seuqaul/something smililar to ITEOTWBIFF . And DON'T Screaw it up you ass! >:O[/Rant]

Kixxe...

I actually agree with you. Darkside went on for WAY to long and by end I just wanted to END it, so I did and now I"m going to shelve it and just work on some shorter, more different stories, rather then any more Darksides. I am just so heartily sick of Darkside, that I don't want to get close to it with a ten foot pole.

But I will keep it around to work on it for work on later, so I can make some money off my work.

Also...next time I have a space story...I have to have FTL drives. Its a REAL pain to write for slower then light ships. For one it takes FOREVER to get anywhere. FOREEEEEEVER! Its incredibly annoying. So its FTL for me...

Now I'm a gonna go write some other things.
