Interesting, I am looking for a longer version, I have one modelled, but I don't think it would be able to fly, cuz it has no joints..
This still needs a lot of things to make it looks like a wing, and textures will be brutal for it..

@MrSpontaneous:

Well, on the one hand... if you were modeling for a game circa 1998, you'd be doing great. It looks like something from Descent ;)

However, it really seems very simplistic, and the progression of geometric forms isn't helped by the lack of detail. The biggest problem area, and it's screaming for detail, is the missile. I'd give it some greebles to suggest a launching rack- maybe you could even make it open, "drop" the missile, and then activate the firing sequence (hint: fire, then hide all in the same sequence with no sleeps). I also feel like it should have some inset detail areas or something to suggest sensors, equipment, or anything.

Don't get me wrong but this sorta looks like a banana with a tumor :)
I'd say google for dragon wing images to get some basic shapes...

I did say more to that effect... I never said anything about it staying with that look...

I've seen dragons in various games- they use a series of triangles, joined and then rotating/animated. The skin does most the work, really. I think with Spring, you'd either have to do vert animations (painful, but it is possible) or just use some clever frame-based stuff and have it run on a cyclic timer.

As for the details... er... most dragon wings in literature/illustration have thin membraneous wings... you could just use flat faces and use the new transparency feature to make them look right... just a thought.

Yeah I guess I could make em pretty flat..

I am going to do the arms/finish up on it..

Then I think the wings are gunna be folded back and hidden til level 3

(PS: All the Aliens [Thats what the gunship is] are going to evolve at some level, this one will gain the ability to become a gunship, or just a flying thing that buzzes around and shoots some of Argh's Acid Throwers)

As a matter of fact, should I upload it so you can see how the wings would fit/give critique for the rest of it? (After I do arms, I may not be finished tonight seeing as I have 40 mins til sleep :()
Edit: And I still haven't done his head

A Harrier GR.1 I modelled years ago, hastily welded and no doubt horrific from a technical point of view, it was for OTA, afterall. A mere 452 tris.

Hum the Harrier ain't got that tip of the nose IIRC and the cockpit section is a tad thinner or maybe I have it different in memory. Also the wings could be angled down a little bit more (~5°). Other than that it looks pretty good to me.

edit: I take it back, the Harrier II (and probably later models) didn't have that nosetip and I think the cockpit section got changed on the later revisions as well...

Mirrored, for easy uvmapping.

Image

Low-poly, with no wasted faces. I cut objects through each other quite a bit.

The quickie raytrace, to make sure it still feels right when exposed to light and shadows.

Click here to download the early, un-uvmapped version.

For this model, I chose a real-world reference, and then twisted it about. So it's part supersonic missile, part drone, part stealth plane- and all robotic and evil feeling- should be right at home in NanoBlobs ;)

The GR.1 (first production model circa '67, in service '69) had the pointed nose, before they added the fancy sensors into it.

Argh: now put a small Anakin on it and you've got half a podracer :)
Not bad, like that.

Alright, I finished the "Armed Goose" at 1004 triangles (I'd remove more but can't find anything to remove anymore). Dunno if I'll UV map it before saturday...

Well... I took some peoples advice in zoombies thread and set out just see what happens...

Image

Bare in mind this is the first thing I've got past the "looks like a few boxes" stage on in about 3 years!! So I'm quite amazed that I seem to have moddeled roughtly what I set out to model!

The bits above the intakes are the guns... in hindsite I need to remodel then with seperate barrels (for recoil).

Also, its prob not very optimised... but it is mirrored for UVing.

Please help me by pointing out the flaws!! I can post the wings files when I get in tomoz if people wanna see it.

aGorm

::EDIT:: its apparently 27 faces, 561 edges and 289 vertices...

Well, I added somethings and changed the general look of the unit around. It now has more. . .standardised wings. The missle has evolved into a RPB (rocket propelled bomb :P). I even added a small (but rather pointless) antena on the back.

Model:

488 tris

Most (if not all) of the models in this thread look like they would be perfectly applicaple in some if not many mods. It might be a good idea to package them all together for any one to use rather than just the "winner" (unless you were already planning on doing that in which case ignore this.)

aGorm that jet reminds me of the nod craft in tiberium sun (ever play that?), it looks good ;)

p.s. I know the image looks pretty bad, was hard getting it to less than 1.5 mb :S

Use teh JPGs, Luke! :P

Agorm: to see the triangle count, go in face selection mode, hit CTR+A, right click -> Tesselate -> Triangulate. The number next to "Faces" is the actual triangle or polygon count. Don't forget to hit CTLR+Z afterwards (unless you like working with triangles).

That thing in Tiberian Sun was called Banshee IIRC and yes, it looks a lot like it.

Anyone up for a non-symmetrical aircraft layout?
