I have make a turn over the web on the projects on open sources games.....

and the BIG conclusion:
spring is a very good game but it isn't open source and it isn't port in linux.
and, spring isn't referrence because no open source.

so, i know that you work on linux port.
but, on opensource, does someone can tell me what isn't excatly opensource?
and is it possible to work on 100% opensource?

because, i want make referrence on a lot of web site, "over 10 web site"

sry for my english.

that why they dont want to refer ta spring :
from faq:

Is Spring free?
The core game is released under GPL License. However, some parts of the game are still under copyright by their owners. Therefore, today, you need to own the original TA game if you want to play. However the community is working hard in order to offer completely free alternatives.

Yes...the AA and XTA mods use content from OTA...but spring itself is GPL.

Yah spring itself is open source, XTA and AA and ect arent.
And umm...As far as I know, spring DOES work on linux, thats what started the 0.70 version.

IIRC the poor linux users get screwed over due to the fact that the windows build is compile with VC/C++. Basically Linux works, but no cross platform multiplayer yet (without wine that is)

The next version of Spring will have a 100% GPL-compliant version, which will be Open Source.

This will be possible. But yes, Spring isn't capable of doing everything that everybody could possibly want just yet- JC's still working on the bee-gun ;)

Spring is a 3D game engine for RTS games. Spring is Open Source.

To play Spring, you need mods, sets of units. Most of them are not free, are based in the original Total Annihilation and use that content. There are a few mods that are free. Xect vs Mynn, nanoblobs and maybe some more.

Hi,
I have ready all of yours messages:
- The engine spring is 100% open-source
- The most played mods XTA and AA aren't open-source.

so, i think it is important to say it in the F.A.Q that the engine spring is open-source, and we can use an open-source mod.

I think it is important in the next version to have a download package 100% open-source without mod.
Then, quickly make a "user-working" package with lobby client and a mod opensource.

Then, talk about Taspring evry where over the world ;)

exemple: Evry web site talk about the glest, and nothing about taspring because no open-source. For me Taspring is better but no opensource:( .

I know I misread Snipawolf post, and that they are TA units and not Spring units, but I cannot resist such an occasion: http://wormhole.tauniverse.com/?page=tajokes

Actually, if I could find a way to remove unit faces shading and starburst projectile flames, the boobies would work well in Spring.
