organicilicious...unfortunately the models that'd use an organic texture won't work very well in spring. perhaps something underwater?

I was thinking that as well.

I have an idea. Everybody open up MS Paint and start with a blank 256x256 image. You have one hour. Make us a texture.

Is it harder? Yes. Is it more rewarding? Yes. Is it going to yield useful textures? Maybe.

Instead of MS Paint you can use a rusty old nail and carve patterns into your forearm, then bleed onto the scanner and use that. It'll look better and be about as fun to make.

That post definitely betrays a lack of skill with MS Paint, or a lack of respect for what you can do with it.

It just takes more effort... but you can make a good texture with it. Great thing to try on airline flights with low-power computers, or sometimes even on your Pocket PC...

This is a subtle gunmetal camo that I made to put over a unit texture of mine at 50% opacity that was gunmetal in the same color range, and it looked good, actually. I didn't use any filters, just a couple brushes, the impressionist brush tool, and some care with the RGB values used

Thread derailing here for a minute, that's a fucking awesome idea. Can we start weekly art competitions? Something simple, won't take much time, that a lot of people can get in on. All entries have to be free to use for Spring projects. You know, "This week, the competition is an X by X texture, tileable. The catagory is 'metallic base patterns'. You have 7 days. Voting for winner will occur over the next week, during which we will also run a second contest. The winner will recieve props... and... well that's it. Go!"

We could do, like "Best swamp camo" one week, then "Best slime texture" the next, then like "Best attack cursor" ect, ect, ect. We should totally do it.
