My new video

Post by goggleBOX »

I have made a video guide two players can use when starting together on the same team on the map Green fields. The video is based around idea that the the faster you take to blow your commander and reclaim, the better your start in green fields will be.

Have a look and tell me what you think.

Low-res version on Google video:

Any suggestions for improvment or new videos for the future are welcome.

The link at the end of the movie is to here:

Well... it's not so much a fool proof plan than a proof of concept. In realty I have never seen two players work together this closly :)

7 mins to collect on a commander would be good even in a Small Supreme or Altored Divide game.

I'm more interested what you guys think of the production values, where i could improve.

It is really cool you put in some extra effort so others can improve their strategies. One video I think would be greatly appreciated is a crash course type of thing for newbies explaining all the user interface controls that spring has. Something that shows people how to do everything like: queuing up buildings, switching the different camera modes, using keyboard commands lots of people don't know about (L, # control groups).

Yeah that's my plan for my next video. Then probable something that shows how to install Spring, add mods, get new maps, what you can do in the lobby. The real basics. I don't know about most people but just setting up spring when you just start is not that simple. Sure it's easy enough and most people can figure it out but we need to make that knowledge gap as small as possible.

I also want to do a plan by plan of the AA units but I'll need some help on that one as people will have heaps of unique tatics for units I don't know about.

The video is fine, but it highlights a Greenfields issue that I've never been able to fully understand...

If everybody always reclaims their commander early on in Greenfields, then why play the map at all? The novelty of having a severe metal shortage is completely bypassed by everyone involved. You can achieve the same effect on any map by just disabling mexes and starting the players off with 15k metal; and this latter approach has the added benefit of shaving a few boring minutes off of the game time.

Things are much more interesting when "Commander dies, game ends" is enabled. Players have to make hard decisions about when it's safe to invest metal for tech upgrades, etc...

Sorry Randy I missed your question the first time ;)

I used fraps to record the video, windows "sound recorder" for the audio and microsoft movie maker 2.1 to put it all together. I am using the pro version of fraps as the trial only lets you record 30 seconds of video in one hit.

+1 Good thing the new version of AA will change things.

Goggle those other video ideas are exactly what we need to do for spring. It'll reduce the number of "how do install a mod?" question in #main which is always a good thing.

Video quality was fine, same with the audio.

If u plan on doing anything involving combat mechanics (of Spring) it would be worthwhile to find someone to play opposite against, prefereably with TS or Vent or something so u guys can coordinate.

but regardless +500 to the the newb vids

hmmm.... this gives me an idea about E&E...

QUICK, TO THE LAIR!!!!!!!

heh, i hope you didn't buy fraps just for spring... it has its own video recorder! dun dun dunnn! :P although you can't watch the raw frames, and I haven't attempted compressing it so I'm not sure that it works. but...

also, replace the first green screen with the tab-zoom ofr greenfields, IMO

also find something (maybe SSs from the movie) to put in as SSs for the credits at end...

one point, you should make two con vehicles, so that one can start reclaiming the commander while it self d's to take advantage of the bug where if you are reclaiming and an outside force destroys the unit in question you will get that metal and can reclaim the corpse

I am really against the use of bugs during game play so I wont be adding something like that to the video. I will check it out though as it sounds interesting.

<-- Just saw Tricky Tricks Part 1

30second vulcans. wow
While not practical in an actual match, I did enjoy some of your tutorials there, and the video itself is very well orchestrated.
Very nice.
