Help Name new editor

Post by Buggi »

The massive project I'm working on to edit Files for Spring and legacy TA files is well underway. However I'm still without a name for it.

I know this may seem trivial, but I don't want anything sounding corney, like SpringEdit or something. So, to all you non-programmers out there, help me find a name for it!

It will be a do-all for Spring; units, files, textures, maps, conflicts, etc. All coded in C#.

I WILL be posting more information soon, I am not attempting to tease anyone, just raising awareness and trying to find help when I need it. And give help when I can. I just wish the dev's would not ignore me

I figure I'll through a few names up in the air for the
name of the project. Here is a list of what I came up
with ..

OverLord Spring All in One Map Editor

Smufate Spring Map Unit Files And Textures Editor

CTASE Custom Total Annihilation Spring Editor

SYTA Editor

SYClam-Editor

FUMATE File Unit Map And Texture Editor

Some are good and some aren't ...

If I think of something else I post ...

If you want to be sarcastic, don't even post.

I'm serious and if you post crap it only deters from the project.

No TLA's please. Or FLA's or #LA's for that matter.

If you release this, I doubt anyone will care what its named. I myself will be to busy using it.

Will it also be able to read and write hpi's? And gafdump(Or would that fit under textures)?

Any trained marketing advisors here? I'm trying to think of a good one, but can't.

Buggi is a good name... Except if we start getting weird errors, enough to nickname it buggy.

I'd like to name it "TA Spring Construction Set" (TAS-CS), similar to the TES-CS, The Elder Scrolls construction set, the all-in-one modding util for Morrowind. Or, if you wish to misspell it a little, TASKS.

Geez, just get back to programming and stop thinking about that name. It's the least important thing. In ta annihilator is a map editor, but hell who cares if it were called tamapmaker of whatever.

..Buggi

I wasn't being sarcastic ....

I'm sorry ... If I pissed you off ....

They are just a group of letters ....
It will be a do-all for Spring; units, files, textures, maps, conflicts, etc
People need to learn too READ ...

"C.T.A.S.E." = Custom Total Annihilation Spring Editor

"S.M.U.F.A.T.E." = Spring Map Unit Files And Textures Editor

" F.U.M.A.T.E." = File Unit Map And Texture Editor
Rayden: Ok, first i thought this is a good name, but then i saw the deeper sense behind :). I wonder if this was intended.

There is NO .... hidden meaning in it .... just a group of letters ..
You think WAY TOO.... much into things ....

On this one its a little deeper ....

"SYClam-Editor" It came from part of the http of the site ...

clan-sy .... I live in New England .... NE ... of the USA ...

Boston clam chowder ... so ... I reversed ...

calling it sy-clan ... an because I'm around the Boston
area I changed clan to " clam" ... No HIDDEN meaning ....

Bottom line ... if you don't like them ... You should have
just said," GenBlood .... they stink ... and try again ..."

again I'm sorry ... if I pissed you off ....

Oh noes, he was going to single single-handedly entirely reprogramm Scriptor, 3Do Builder, 3DS Max, Photosop, Annihilator, Gaf Builder, Hpi viewer & Packer, Bryce, Spring, but in much improved ways, and he was stopped only because he couldn't decide on a name! What a shame! Image (Use of a random smiley to indicate irony)

Right now it's name is "Epic Editor" but I like the "Spring Construction Set" name. :D Plus it gives you yet ANOTHER TLA to work with. :P

The program will feature options for everything. Like I said, I'm tired of having 5+ programs for units. So it'll have support for Menus (download and GUI), BOS/COB, FBI, Weapons, GAF, 3DO, Textures, and upload/download via a webservice.

I have a friend doing the 3D work right now, he's just exceptional when it comes to that. I may give him the GAF format as well because COB will take a considerable chunk of time.

Most of the utilities for the above were done 5+ years ago and most look for your "TA Install dir". Well with Spring that doesn't exist.

I've completed work on the new HPI file format. Version 3 will look somewhat similar to past version with a few obvious exceptions.

Compression methods supported will extend to 7Zip, Deflate, and Tar. Support for the old legacy formats will be in there as well :)

And NO MORE ENCRYPTION!!! What a waste of CPU power. Imagine the time it's taking the engine to decrypt all the files it loads...

I also mentioned a web-service above. Notes on that are still in the prelim. stages. Another friend is going to work on that. But I know it'll have the ability to "shop" for units and download the ones you want, minus conflicts :)

If you could add .gaf support in Spring.exe too, that'd be nice.

Actually, I bend to Spring's will. So what they want, I want.

If they want them to be extracted, fine, if not, we need another dev or two for spring related features.
