What is this site hosted on?

Post by Gabba »

This is a question for the SY: I'm curious to know what this website is hosted on? Do you pay for webspace from some provider, or is it hosted "from home"?
If you run it from home, how powerful is that computer, and how much monthly bandwidth and upload speed does your ISP give you with your current plan? This site works well, and if I eventually host my own website, I'd like it to run at least as well!

Thanks in advance for the info.

I run it on my home connection, which is 10/10 mbit. The server computer is a dual P3-500. I don't really have any restrictions on bandwidth.. It's possible that my ISP would complain if I used the full 10mbit 24/7 though.. :) The site has used around 110gb of outgoing traffic so far this month, excluding the BT seeding which might be around 10-20 gb more. If the download folder wasn't capped at 200k/sec it would probably be higher though, seems like it has been transferring at that rate constantly for the last few days. :)

Hm lets see.. I pay 265 sek/month which is around $37 I think. They recently increased it with some administrative fee though.. Thinking about switching to another ISP that only costs 219 sek/month instead. :)

I think it's safe to assume that Caydr doesn't know exactly what we're talking about.

Sorry, typos and bad conversion. My connection is 5,000 kbps down / 800 kbps up. $30/month CAD. And... I still think you're nuts to pay $80 a month for that even if you're in Iqualuit or something.

http://www.shoprogers.com/Store/Cable/I ... xtreme.asp

The offer on there is for $38/month... but me and Rogers share a certain... special relationship. Even at $38/month though, it would still be a lot better than what you've got... you're getting ripped off horribly.

you've got to be a fool to let yourself receive a 60 GB download/upload per month cap!!! wow, i know people that easily do that with download alone

 Jawdropping. Sweden must be some extension of heaven. How do they do it? I've been looking for Symmetrical DSL connections over here in Montreal, Qc, Canada, and up to now for what I've seen you have to pay almost 200 C$/month for a 1.5/1.5mbps connection. If any Canadian here hears of good deals in Quebec/Ontario, please let me know!!
