Adjusted GUI

Post by NOiZE »

I made a patch which slightly adjust the arrangement of the current gui. Basicly i tried to remove all marges. Also i moved the "chatbox" to the right of the screen so that dualscreen users won't have their chatbox cut in half over two screens. Also i made it a bit more transculant and grey, which is easier on the eyes IMO.

The patch can be found here:

So you guys like this or does it need more adjustments?

Looks better then the current.
Probably there could not be wished for much more on this state.
I take with the fact you hacked you're own versions means a CEGUI implantation is still far of?

Anyway, cheers for the improvement!

Margin.

Looks good, but why has it taken people this long to make such simple little modifications?

Because most can't see any difference whatsoever. :?

I'd like it with a constant sized font for the buttons (had the same problem when making buttons for my group ais forever long ago...). The rest looks alright, though a border around the text box would also add a lot imo.

And I just noticed, the top of the buttons is the top of the button box, they should probably have a slight margin there (since one exists to the side).

Is it just me or is the tooltip window at the bottom left wonky?

I still think it'd look sharper if the chat box and resource bars were flush with the right side of the screen. I understand the reason why it's not there, I guess, but I don't think it's much of a reason.

Me likes. Less wasted space, better use of the corners.

A big improvement! My only quibble: the "Selected Units: X" text has no background. This makes it a bit of a pain to read. Could that be moved somewhere else? Perhaps below the arrows in the orders box?

(This is probably a bit much, but it would be absolutely amazing if that could be split into "Selected Units: X / Selected Buildings: X" I find I accidentally select buildings and units when clicking in the heat of battle, and this produces very frustrating behaviour. This would let me see much more clearly what I'd done wrong.)

Also, when you have a unit group selected, could it still show the number of units?

You don't. This is not a patch for users, it's a patch for developers to consider putting into future versions of Spring.

Could someone remove those small white squares from each corner in the minimap?

Dont remove it completely, but put them to be shown when you point at minimap, and when you arent pointing at minimap, they doesnt show.
