What can we do about the hosting problem?
Ideas anyone?
.
..
... Are people configuring the linksys type devices correctly?
They should be forwarding port 8452 udp and tcp to one
IP. I also, forward 4897 udp and tcp too. It might be over
kill, but I can host games.
If you have 2 or more PCs .. in you network, you can't use
the same port settings.
If you want 2 or more PCs in your network to play on-line
it isn't going to happen ...
The network code needs to be rewritten
I've talked to a few people and their is no quick fix ... The
network code needs to be revamped. There were a few
games that had issues like this. I think it was C&C Generals
and another Westwoods game... can't think of the name at
the momment ...
So, if you have a Linksys type device try forwarding to
only one IP. An test it .....
port 4897 udp and tcp
port 8452 udp and tcp
try it and see if ot works ....
.. Post your results ....

I cannot host games
I cannot host games.
When testing I get the: "Failed. You probably won't be able to host with these settings" message.
It would be nice if the error-message was more specific. (E.g. indicating whether the problem is in connecting to your computer, etc.)
I have forwarded:
port 4897 udp and tcp
port 8452 udp and tcp
I have made my LAN IP static.
I have shutdown my software-firewall (ZoneAlarm), but I still have Win-XP's own firewall running. (I even tries to host with XP-firewall turned off, but thet didn't help)
I have no anti-virus software running.
I have .NET framework v. 1.1.4322 SP1
My router is a Zyxel Prestige 650R-31 ADSL router.
I would like to hear of other peoples configuration (whether or not they can host) (Please include information on firewalls/anti-virus software)

You can play online with 2 computers behind the same router. I have done it. You can not, however, host without mucking about with manually configured settings.txt files. One host per router. And if, like me, you are on verizon's dsl and they don't even give your router an external ip address, then you get really screwed. We can't play on the net with zwo or three computer?
I'm sad, I sometimes invite some friends to play warcraft 3. It really funny when you are in the same room. And I think with Spring, it could be funnier!
Network code needs rewriting. It is the major thing preventing wide-scale adoption, since it causes getting a game to take about 10 times longer than it should.
ive got my xp firewall on, Norton Anti-virus on, and i can host. Im behind a Link-Sys WRTG234-somthing router, and i just DMZ-ed the computer's IP address (i know it's insecure, but i dont have anything important on my comp to lose)...i also fowarded the two ports. Before i DMZ, i couldnt host. Make sure you host through a port that is one you opened. Also, i can host, but if i test is says it wont work. I dunno why, but i just host and kill stuff.

i just have port 8452 udp/tcp forwarded on my router and i can host fine, no idea why you would assume more than one computer can't play on the same network, the clients don't need any ports forwarded at all, just outbound access. have you all set your ip to your WAN ip in the spring client? maybe joun could make it automatic, like when you log on the main server sends your ip back to you.
Hosting and ZoneAlarm
Information concerning those who use the ZoneAlarm firewall:
When I turn OFF ZoneAlarm, and turn ON the native firewall that comes with windows, I am able to host games. (I seems that ZoneAlarm blocks incoming traffic on Spring, even when the game has been given server privileges).

I'm on a linksys router. I had a hard enough time getting permission to forward the ports for TA, not to keen on trying for another. When hosting a game, you can change the port used. I'm guessing this is only the port for the actual game. It would be nice if I could set the battlerooms port as well so people can actually connect to it. Unless of course the battleroom uses some other devilry/magic/voodoo to get around router problems.
