Anti Air Strange Behavior

Post by carterhawk »

So Im in a game, playing, ive built my air defense, mostly flak, and for no reason they all start firing straight up, of course gravity pulls the shells back down, I take damage, I lag, enemy planes can get in, etc. The guy im playing with says its some cheap trick with flying a plane manualy realy high up, the AA can target it, but the shells never get high enough to hurt it. Why is this possible and how do i prevent it or correct it when it occurs? Im at the point where If someone does this to me, I simply end the game rather than continue playing with people who have ZERO honor.

Can't be prevented ATM, the in-range checks only look for XZ coordinates, not Y. Should be easy to fix for the devs.

Needs to be fixed so planes can't fly this high, rather than relying on just the range check in the height-axis.

How it would be fixed then? What if map has really high hills? And when plane flies over the hill, it will fall down?

Trademark: Height would be measured from the ground, not sea level.

What... i ment, if you fly over high hill, then you have like 10000 meters fall under you.

Code: Select all

airplane comes ->
_______
-------|
-------|
-------| <- oops, big fall
-------|
-------|
-------|
-------|
-------|
-------|_______________________________________________________
---------------------------------------------------------------
So how would that be solved... how it defines when its not allowed to be that high?

Airplanes already behave weird with those slopes.

There's a way to solve that.

sure, we need a max height above ground for planes to be within firing range of anti air. there is no good reason to let a plane fly into targeting range but not firing range at the same time.

How can u select unit and destroy it high in the air?
I were setting up hot keys today (ctrl+1, 2 etc.).
But this method is really annoying cause you can destroy your own planes and Air labs if u don't deselect other stuff.

Anyone?

p.s. may be selection on the map will make our life easier in next version.
p.s.2 Or maybe limit anti air range in vertical axe

THe bug is actually worse than most people think. Planes that cause this seem to land on the sky box or something. This is actually a serious bug.

Go in manual/FPS camera mode (dont know the exact camera mode name), use Ctrl+j or wheelmousebtn to switch between modes, then look at the sky from the ground, you ll be able to select the plane and selfD it.

Won't work if it's an enemy plane.

exactly, thats the complaint i have, that my foes might use this tactic to gain an unfair advantage.
