If everyone thought this way technology would advance very slowly...

http://www.unknown-files.net/browse.php?dlid=1553

I've been trying to add skins aka swing look n feel packages with limtied success.

If people could suggest one that isnt commercial or requires MacOS to run and looks pretty...

heres an example

Is AFLobby perfect or something or have you all had your fingers glued together after running it? I cant stand zero feedback.......

It's a wee bit buggy. I logged in then presented with an open screen that vaugly resembled the current spring lobby I tried to figure out what was going on. The only choices asside from chatting seemed to be a thing called "raw traffic" and "login". Not really knowing what "raw traffic" was I clicked the login button and found myself back in the login screen, only I couldn't return because I was already logged in and the login event was the trigger that pushes you to the chat screen :P

Overall I have to say I quite like it visually, the raw data feild is a bit overwhelming because it moves obnoxiously fast and your average user won't ever need to see it, I'm gonna try logging in again and playing with other features.

[edit] it opens two raw traffic window instances on startup, one is compleatly empty and only the other feeds data.

[edit2] I'm logged in and can see the people on the spring server but I have no apparent method of joining a channel, let alone options like channel preforms...

And yah the raw traffic window is on by default for debugging purposes, I need to finish my 'toasts'/notification panels for things like login failure etc

And the bug where quickly logging out then in is a server issue, you can get it with TASClient sometimes, betalord said it wasnt that important as it rarely ever happens and you onyl need to just wait if it happens....

Bug reports round 2:
- no user images (ranking, nation, status, anything)
- spellcheck in PM does nothing, accumulate is an ambigous term, what is that supposed to do? undo/redo do nothing
- enter in PM doesn't default as send which is minorly annoying...
- cannot join channels (if you can the method of doing so is really non apparent, that should be the easiest thing to do)
- clicking refresh list in the "channels" tab gives you a ton of gunk, nothing readable (because it's under construction?)
- looknfeel menu does nothing, either that or there are supposed to be styles that I don't have
- character sorting for user names is really illogical, it sorts capital letters, then abstract characters, and then lowercase letters, it really should be sorting considering lower case and capital letters as the same thing. Also, add other sorting options, like sort by rank, sort by nation or sort by status
- I assume all the "under construction" menu's still have a fair ways to go...

The channel refresh shows the same data you get from the channel list command in TASClient only its a smaller text, hcih should realyl be enlarged. To join a channel type the channel name in the textbox and click on the join button.

However when finsihed it'll show a nice pretty html page complete with join hyperlinks and autorefresh.....

Thanks for the ntoe in enter in pm windows, I remember adding it to channel widnwos though.

Any suggestions on what i change accumulate messages to? It's todo with multiline messages. If you turn it off then the users name is pritned before every message they write, otherwise it only prints it at the first message they type and everytime they're interrupted giving the illusion of multiline messages. It's the same style used as Windows Live messenger and a few other messaging apps.

Other methods of sorting will be there soon but right now the required support isnt there.

And the look n feel menu should list different java swing styles available and allow them to be switched.

And I havent integrated the spellchecking library yet

I also know that:
- I need to add the copy paste etc right click menu to the channelwindow
- I need to assign code to the redo undo buttons in the pm/channel window
- Change the start tab to load a custom webpage with hyperlinks tied to tabs for quick actions

Lastest version is available here in the thread called "alpha 5". This is because AFlobby is in alpha # 5 right now, presumably as more versions release they will get larger alpha numbers and eventually go into beta.

IFF IF IF IF.. for some bizzare reason you guys decide to use 3d models on the lobby... :P

I can help graphically... but thats about the end of it...

I GUESS I could render a 3d image as a picture (buttons, maybe a frame, etc...) and give you some pretty images... but I'll need dimensions..

oh, and time.. these things aren't instant...

All the buttons, small image, and text should be vector-based, scalable drawings.

Java has some interting vector drawing libraries...
