Stuff happens! Guns are fired! Some explosions occure! Other stuff happens! And maybe even...DEATH?
Eve groaned. It felt like several tones of bricks had fallen on her. She rolled over. Several tonnes of metal, twisted and blackened, hung a few inch's away from her face. She hauled herself up to a sitting position with her arms. Her left leg was shot through with pain. Eve felt it and immediately drew her hand back. Under her pants she felt the bone sticking through the skin, creating a large bump where there Shouldn't be a bump. Eve blinked away her tears. She would hurt later. Then, obediently, the pain faded till it was manageable. She looked around for Mike and Lizzy. Lizzy was to her left. She looked fine, despite being unconscious. Mike was a little worse off. His right arm had been crushed by some falling metal. Blood was seeping out from under it, and it looked like he would lose the arm.
Eve looked around. ├óÔé¼┼ôHelp!├óÔé¼┬Ø she shouted ├óÔé¼┼ôHelp!├óÔé¼┬Ø. There was no sound, other then some screams from the wounded that doubtlessly littered the area. Eve pulled up her knee that wasn't injured and pushed herself back. She screamed, stopping about halfway. Her other leg was completely shot through and through with pain, even trying to move it was hell. But she wasn't going to get out of here by screaming. She tensed herself and pushed her self back another agonizing inch. After that she took a rest, panting. The hollow of metal that was carved out around them ended in a hemisphere. It looked like an entire deck had come crashing down on them, caving around this point. Eve tried to find what would cause the deck to curve. But there was nothing. Nothing but...her. She was at the center of the half sphere. Eve felt a chill run down her spine.
There was a sound of footsteps. Then a horribly familiar face looked over the edge of the deck. ├óÔé¼┼ôSo, Eve├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said, his smile mocking ├óÔé¼┼ôHow does it feel to be human now?├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôFuck you├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve gritted her teeth and pushed herself back more, into the room that the deck had fallen into, carving it into two pieces. The room looked like a storage area, but Eve didn't spend much time looking around in it. Taraka jumped down from the deck and walked slowly around Eve, smiling softly. Eve's back caught against a box that was in the cargo bay and she rested against it, looking at Taraka. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou have the same determination as Prime did├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said softly ├óÔé¼┼ôEven dead she was still kicking├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôDon't you dare mention my mother├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve gasped. ├óÔé¼┼ôI thought├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said, smiling evilly and pointing to Lizzy ├óÔé¼┼ôthat she was you're mother├óÔé¼┬Ø.
├óÔé¼┼ôYou can't mention her either├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve gasped, grabbing the box. This was going to hurt. She hauled herself to her feet, screaming with pain and exertion. Then she stood, totteringly, on one leg. Her other leg was in agony. Then Eve looked around for a splint of some kind. Taraka finished his walk around her and stood, in front of her. ├óÔé¼┼ôI just wanted to check in on you're progress├óÔé¼┬Ø he said softly. Eve spat at him. The spittle dribbled down the front of the business suit he always wore. Taraka sighed and vanished with the same speed as a soap bubble popping. Eve let her self relax slightly. The motion jarred her leg, sending a shock wave of pain through her body.
Taraka dabbed at his shirt. ├óÔé¼┼ôSo├óÔé¼┬Ø he said ├óÔé¼┼ôShe didn't react in the way I expected. Thank your god├óÔé¼┬Ø. Michelle looked at him ├óÔé¼┼ôHow did she react?├óÔé¼┬Ø she asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôUnconsciously├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said ├óÔé¼┼ôWitch means the power won't blot this ship out of existence. Yet├óÔé¼┬Ø he finished whipping his shirt off and sighed ├óÔé¼┼ôbut this doesn't matter, not now├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhy not?├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôBecause soon some marines or some of your boarders will find her. Then we will have to see how she reacts to that├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou know, technically my boarders are marines├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said. ├óÔé¼┼ôDo you work your small and inconsequential Colonial government?├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka asked. Michelle left the question hanging in the air, not willing to answer it.
├óÔé¼┼ôSo├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said ├óÔé¼┼ôWhen do you fulfill your end of the agreement?├óÔé¼┬Ø. Taraka sighed, closing his eyes. Michelle smiled, her grin like that of a wolf. ├óÔé¼┼ôNot until you deliver Eve to me├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said finally ├óÔé¼┼ôDo that, and I will grant you you're wish├óÔé¼┬Ø. Michelle nodded ├óÔé¼┼ôBut why not just get her yourself? Or give me the power to-├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhen two powers like I and Eve├óÔé¼┬Ø Taraka said, raising his hand in warning ├óÔé¼┼ôMeet in battle the only result will be more disruption. More disorder and more likely hood of one of us hitting the Threshold. I, as a constable, am bound to prevent that from happening. I came this end of the universe to stop Prime from hitting it, and now I have come to do the same to her daughter. I will not instigate it myself├óÔé¼┬Ø.
With that he turned around and walked to the door. The door didn't open, but he still walked through it. Then he was gone. Michelle sighed and pressed a key on her desk. ├óÔé¼┼ôSend for Ensign Gloria Xue├óÔé¼┬Ø Michelle said. Ever sense crewman Bowels had been killed by Taraka, she had needed to find someone who enjoyed...meetings. Gloria had tickled Michelle's fancy. After a few moments the door to Michelle's cabin opened and Gloria walked in, smiling lopsidedly. Michelle smiled back and switched on her intercom again ├óÔé¼┼ôCancel all my meetings and keep this line clear...unless something goes wrong with the boarding party├óÔé¼┬Ø. Gloria had brought her whip. Michelle stood up, eager to get the...meeting underway. Then she remembered, almost as an after thought, to turn off the intercom.
Eve heard them first. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe're down here!├óÔé¼┬Ø she shouted ├óÔé¼┼ôDown here!├óÔé¼┬Ø. She was feeling a little woozy and the front of her pant leg was slick and wet with blood. The three paramedics who had arrived on the scene dropped into the storage area. One of them said to Eve ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is going to hurt a bit. Then its going to be better├óÔé¼┬Ø. Eve nodded ├óÔé¼┼ôI'm ready├óÔé¼┬Ø she said. The medic took hold of her leg, even his gentle touch sending pain shooting up and down the leg. Then he snapped it back together. Eve's mouth hung open, her body in so much pain she couldn't move or even make a noise. Then they put her on a stretcher and carried her away. Eve craned her head, looking at her mother and Mike. One of the medics stood up after checking Lizzy over. ├óÔé¼┼ôShes dead├óÔé¼┬Ø he said to his partner.
Keller was chewing his nails. ├óÔé¼┼ôCan someone├óÔé¼┬Ø he said ├óÔé¼┼ôTell me why my computer won't work?├óÔé¼┬Ø. His bridge crew looked just as haggard as he did, all of them running to and fro. Three marines had been pressed into service as news carriers, as the entire computer systems seemed to be booted down. Keller kicked his console. Then the entire system came back to life. ├óÔé¼┼ôthank god├óÔé¼┬Ø Keller muttered. Then he saw the readings. ├óÔé¼┼ôThis can't be right!├óÔé¼┬Ø he shouted. ├óÔé¼┼ôIt is!├óÔé¼┬Ø a marine ran into the room ├óÔé¼┼ôthe Aux Damage Control computer is down. Its fucked up the entire system├óÔé¼┬Ø. Keller groaned ├óÔé¼┼ôDamn it├óÔé¼┬Ø he muttered ├óÔé¼┼ôFind Sarris and get her up here! And mobilize the marines and get our medical facilities on line. We have wounded├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôSir├óÔé¼┬Ø the sensors office said ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is impossible├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhats impossible?├óÔé¼┬Ø Keller asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôThe dust cloud, sir...its gone!├óÔé¼┬Ø.
The shuttles slipped through space, containing ten raiders each. Corporal Douglas tightened his exoskeleton, just checking for the fifth time whether or not it was on right. He was always a little twitchy before a fight, and now was no exception. The nine other raiders were each doing their own ritual to make sure they did well in combat. Some checked their guns, other loaded and unloaded their side arms again and again, as if that worked some some kinks. Others, like Douglas, fitted their armor on better. Then the shuttle connected with their target. As a laser drill began to cut into the enemy spacecraft, Douglas looked around at him raiders. ├óÔé¼┼ôAll right├óÔé¼┬Ø he said ├óÔé¼┼ôOur mission is to get to the main reactor for the Stardrive. So if we meet any resistance, just try to get around it. So keep moving and remember to keep your minimaps on full rez├óÔé¼┬Ø. The other raiders all nodded.
Two orderlies were running down the corridors, carrying medical supplies to the bomb site. Then part of the wall caved in, nearly crushing one. Then the raiders poured into the ship. The smarter orderly slapped her hand to her communication headset ├óÔé¼┼ôSir we have boarders!├óÔé¼┬Ø she shouted. Then one of the raiders shot her. She fell back against the wall, blood splattering. The other orderly dropped his supplies and started to run. One of the raiders turned on his headset ├óÔé¼┼ôWe've been I.Ded├óÔé¼┬Ø he said. Then he shot the orderly in the back. ├óÔé¼┼ôKill all order still stands├óÔé¼┬Ø was the response. The other raiders moved out in formation, running along the corridors. They met no resistance all the way to their target, the communication systems of the ship.
├óÔé¼┼ôWe need to get more marines together├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris shouted. ├óÔé¼┼ôTwo of our Sargents were at the blast site├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler said, reading the preliminary reports ├óÔé¼┼ôbut we have managed to get a defense set up around the most primary systems. That is...the com system and the Stardrive. But three lesser systems have been taken out, er....├óÔé¼┬Ø he read through the data slate ├óÔé¼┼ôAux Damage Control computers, the games system and our infonet work├óÔé¼┬Ø. Sarris sighed ├óÔé¼┼ôWhere are our marines deployed?├óÔé¼┬Ø. Himmler brought up a map on the table they were working at. The ship was shown in a cross section. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe've got marines here and here├óÔé¼┬Ø he said, pointing at the sights on the map. They were clustered near the front of the ship.
├óÔé¼┼ôAnd enemy's have been confirmed here...here, here here here and here├óÔé¼┬Ø he pointed out a depressingly large number of space's. ├óÔé¼┼ôOh hell├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris muttered ├óÔé¼┼ôCan we get to stores?├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler said. ├óÔé¼┼ôGood├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris ran her hand through her hair ├óÔé¼┼ôGet the turrets out of stores and set them up at these choke points├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôAy ay├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler turned to his messenger, a young woman by the name of Madonna. Mad nodded, taking the orders Himmler handed her. Then she started to run, running out of the room and down the hall. ├óÔé¼┼ôMessengers├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris muttered ├óÔé¼┼ôWhen will the computer system come back on?├óÔé¼┬Ø.
├óÔé¼┼ôLast reports said├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler looked at his data slate ├óÔé¼┼ôThat the network will be back on in a day├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe don't have five minuets├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris said ├óÔé¼┼ôbut redeploy the guards outside the door to the defense of the com system and the bridge├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôThe...guards?├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler blanched. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris smiled ├óÔé¼┼ôWe're just drawing attention to us. Best chance to not be seen is to lay low, and a marine squad parked outside one otherwise nondescript room is a great tip off├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes...sir├óÔé¼┬Ø Himmler said, licking his lips. He walked to the door and shouted to the guards. They snapped off salutes. Then one of them stopped ├óÔé¼┼ôHey General├óÔé¼┬Ø he said. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes Private?├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarris asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôHere├óÔé¼┬Ø he tossed her his side arm. Sarris caught it. ├óÔé¼┼ôThanks├óÔé¼┬Ø she grinned.
├óÔé¼┼ôJust hack it off!├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike shouted, feeling the pain shoot through his body again. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe can repair it├óÔé¼┬Ø the doctor said. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe don't have the god damn time!├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike shouted at him ├óÔé¼┼ôJust hack it off and cauterize the wound and we'll be fine├óÔé¼┬Ø. The doctor sighed ├óÔé¼┼ôThis is going to hurt├óÔé¼┬Ø he said. ├óÔé¼┼ôI know├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike said. Then, before the doctor started operating, he turned his pain off. Seeing his arm flop to the floor, spraying blood, was strange without the horrible agony one would expect from such an experience. Mike turned his pain receptors back on. ├óÔé¼┼ôAgh!├óÔé¼┬Ø He groaned, hand rushing to his stump. ├óÔé¼┼ôMove it├óÔé¼┬Ø the doctor ordered. Mike jerked his bloody hand away. The doctor ran a cauterizer over it and then slapped a bandage there.
├óÔé¼┼ôSo I suppose we've been switched around├óÔé¼┬Ø Glickson said, walking into the medical bay. Mike pulled on his shirt as best he could. ├óÔé¼┼ôHuh?├óÔé¼┬Ø he said. ├óÔé¼┼ôLast time I lost the arm and you kept yours├óÔé¼┬Ø Glickson said. He flexed his new right arm and grinned ├óÔé¼┼ôNot losing it this time├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôRight Sarge, right├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike muttered, absentmindedly. ├óÔé¼┼ôWell├óÔé¼┬Ø Glickson said ├óÔé¼┼ôI'm here to give you new orders├óÔé¼┬Ø. He handed Mike a data slate ├óÔé¼┼ôYour squad has had no casualties. Eve is already walking, after they fused her bone├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôRight├óÔé¼┬Ø Mike said ├óÔé¼┼ôWe get to go on the offensive├óÔé¼┬Ø his face fell. ├óÔé¼┼ôOh boy├óÔé¼┬Ø He said without enthusiasm. Glickson sighed ├óÔé¼┼ôWell├óÔé¼┬Ø he said ├óÔé¼┼ôbest of luck to you├óÔé¼┬Ø.
Eve pulled on the right boot and felt it tighten around her shin. The doctor had pumped her leg full of medication to keep the swelling down and prevent it from acting up to much. Still thought it was broken. It still hurt, but that was fading. Eve kept pulling on her exoskeleton, forcing her mind to work on the present. If she wandered she would remember what the medic's had said whiles they were pulling her out. ├óÔé¼┼ôShe's dead├óÔé¼┬Ø. They couldn't mean...dead...dead. Not completely dead. Just mostly dead. Right? Eve sighed. She wouldn't cry. Not now. She pulled on her helmet and tuned the radio to her squads channel. ├óÔé¼┼ôEve├óÔé¼┬Ø Sarge's voice came through ├óÔé¼┼ôCome to the meeting point. This war isn't going to win itself├óÔé¼┬Ø. ├óÔé¼┼ôYes sir!├óÔé¼┬Ø Eve said, standing. She picked up her rifle. Normal ammo and fake ammo didn't weigh any more or any less. So why did it suddenly feel so much heavier?
Eve groaned. It felt like several tones of bricks had fallen on her. She rolled over. Several tonnes of metal, twisted and blackened, hung a few inch's away from her face. She hauled herself up to a sitting position with her arms. Her left leg was shot through with pain. Eve felt it and immediately drew her hand back.
