Strangest computer problem yet.

Post by Felix the Cat »

I have a strange problem. Or, rather, my computer has a strange problem.

My computer moos at me.

Actually, it's more like a "baa", like a sheep.

Anyways, I haven't been able to find anything that I do to make it do this; it does it completely randomly. As far as I can tell, the noise is not doing harm; as in, there's no popups, no IEXPLORE.EXE process is running so it's not some weird background thing, no system slowdown, only an animal noise.

Yes, the sound is coming out the speakers; it's not some weird noise made by the internals (though that's another problem), it's a sheep noise made by my computer's speakers.

Anyone have any idea why my computer makes animal noises?

If its not some weird virus, it could be some weird electrical fault.
PC speakers have an amplifier inside them, the speakers themselves are passive so any fault that appears to exist in the speakers is going to be in the amplifier. I'll call them speakers from here on anyway.

Turn down different volume controls and note the effect.

Unplug the the speakers from the sound card output, this wont prove as much as you think as the fault may be dependant on the connection even if its coming from the speakers themselves.

Try different speakers if you can.

if your audiocable is in a long straight line, try changing this.
it might work as an antenna thin

Check your sounds manager. It could be someone to set you up to play a sound whenever you do "X".

hahaha!! Muhahahaha!

On a more serious note, now, i smell some kind of viruses (probably harmless .. or not?).

I remember a long time ago (probably already in the past century), there was a set of motherboards with a broken BIOS because the programer who programed it, made it sing a hapybirthday song in his birth day with the PC speaker.

Well, I figured out. It's from a virus.

Actually it's from AIM, is a virus that people are forced to voluntarily download in order to talk to other people.

Well if you trouble removing the virus you could always go safemode and then doing a full virus scan.

First of all, use a messenger prog sucha s Gaim kopete miranda or Trillian for stuff like aim/aol/icq. IRC would be better off in a dedicated IRC client thoI use trillian with it, and Yahoo /MSN are soon to be interlinked liek aim/aol/icq are, though I sue those with trillian too.

And turn fof system restore if you have it on. It will only get rid of very basic viruses, the more common ones are systemr estore immune. Thus it serves as a waste of hardrive space. You'd be better doing a full system backup to dvd or spare hd.

If you can get rid fo somethign with system restore then you're better off just using a free antivirus, it's more effective.
