Boot image + MS stuff

Post by AF »

Ok I have my laptop with no CD drive and I have a setup on ym hardrive, btu I cant boot it. I have a boot.bin and a copy of the required boot image I need to shove in the hardrive, but I dont know how to link everything together so the laptop boots the boot image and starts the whole thing up.

Is there a quick way of setting this up? Can i do it in turn with booting a floppy that boots the image?

untrue, I can still use the laptop with linux, and if I get this boot image shoved in the MBR of the hardrive I can use windows server 2003/Windows XP/Windows 2000. And I know it's possible to do that without a cd drive.

Isn't there a lilo command line option to create an MBR... I think that's what you need to do... just create it on the hard drive you want to boot from or whatever. Don't know how, I just know that's what I've seen my friend seem to do. Also, there are numerouse network installs you could probably get to by booting with a floppy.

The method I have used before, is to set up a FAT32 partition on a new HDD, copy a widows instal CD onto it into a directory. Put it in the new PC, boot from floppy and run setup. I havn't done it recently so I don't know if it would work with XP/2k.

I could do that, the easy part beign runnign winnt in the i386 fodler.

However the setup I have copied has been modified to have thigns removed and stuff added using nliteOS (http://www.nliteos.com) and hasnt got a winnt.

That and I have other OS setups that I can run fi I knew howto move a boot image into a hard drives MBR
