computer spazzed out for some reason yesterday BSOD'ing on every boot!
all i can say is how easy it was to retore it to full* functionality because i had one 10Gb partition just for windows & program files (games & media go somewhere else).
huzzah!
*assuming nothing is actually wrong with the hardware and it's not just a hangover from BSOD's caused by overheating RAM
ZOMG my PC is still BSOD'ing!

overheating ram? Do you have one of those computer desks that doesnt given the full 2 - 3 feet of space eitherside of the tower to circulate air and instead ahs the air inlet right up against the side? I'd be very very worried if the ambient temperature in your case is enough for RAM to overheat, imagine what the cpu and graphics must be experiencing or even your hard drive......

nah it's just a small case (typical temps about 35-37) and the ram has those stupid heatspreaders on it (ala they don't cool off at all without forced airflow).AF wrote:overheating ram? anyway, seems it's up to its old tricks again. i have a feeling the RAID controller is dying on its arse. The drives themselves seem fine but i'm getting insta BSOD & resetting whilst trying to get into windows! works fine in safe mode and all the data appears to be ok. i think it just has a hissy fit trying to load drivers.
anyone had a similar 'feature' in their system? i'm a bit unfamiliar with RAID problems

ah drivers are likely the cause then.
Look for drivers you recently installed or updated and downgrade/remove them.
Also runngina system itnegrity program or two would be a good idea, for example booting the memtest image on the knoppix distribution to check RAM..
And as always, when a BSOD appears, note down the stopcode and post it here and google for it to see the exact problem and other peoples solutions.
