Status Message Thingie

Post by Cabbage »

Was just thinking, would it be possible to impliment some sort of automatic response when someone tried to PM you in the lobby? Something along the lines of the MSN away message or whatever.

It's just that im SOOOOOOOOOO popular people tend to get a little bit upset when i don't reply - thinking they're getting shunned by someone as handsome as me can't be nice ^^

Just think it would be nice to send automatic replies such as "I'm in the shower, gonna go down the pub and get slaughtered" or "I'm down the pub getting off my trolly" or "I'm lying on the floor in a pile of my own vomit, i could be a little bit drunk"

You get the general idea :P

If you don't reply it means you're away... Automated messages are just annoying.

certain high ranking lobby guys are well known for their ability to ignore. A way of differentiating ignorance and awayness would be nice, while providing a reason for being away that might even say when you'll be abck

erm... you do realise you can mess with your settings in the client? it may yield useful results
(notify on PM...)
do your research before posting so you don't look like a handsome n00b =)

Mat, he's asking for autoresponses, not notification of PM. Notification of PM is when the client makes a ringing sound when someone PMs you to let you know that you've been PMed.

There are uses for the lobby other than battles, such as contacting people in the community.

You could have had all of this if the lobby was built on an extended IRC protocol, e.g. IRC basics + custom stuff such as ranking and what ever else... :)

Anyway it shouldn't be too hard to add some server events like AWAY

<EVENT> <nickname> <timestamp_since_gone> :<reason...>
e.g. AWAY RandomPerson 1154796290 :gone fishing

Client would translate this into
RandomPerson is away since 4mins 25secs: gone fishing

Now if someone queries someone else who has set himself an away message, the server would send a response. Or make it client based, thus if the query window is not open, send an automated message.
Would increase the overall traffic either way though.
