NEW Map .. called Free-Zone ...

Post by genblood »

I've just finished a new map. I'm calling it Free-Zone ...
Its a desert map with a few water spots on the map.
The map size is 16x16. It has 9 starting postions ...

This map design is different from most of the ones
I've done. I hope you like the new way I'm doing my
maps now. So, here is the link for the map.

this sort of map should be made in the new map format, if I'm not mistaken the method used to render it is similar to that used by the new map format, only the new map format makes it look better.

Could we see a shot of the whole map with water showing? The minimap isnt too useful without the water showing.....

The textures look really good! Maybe you should use that scheme again. One thing I think is important to remember when making your heightmap is balance. If one area (like top left in this map) is taller than all the surrounding areas, than the person who starts there is going to have a definite advantage. Another thing, you should try using terragen solely for generating some heightmap features (mountains, plateaus, etc). Just keep hitting the generate landscape button until you see something on the heightmap you want to use. Then export the heightmap and open it in ps/gimp. Then cut out the parts you want out of the heightmap. It is easy to produce realistic looking mountains/plateaus with that method.

This is just great. This kind of maps we have been lacking. "realistic" heightmaps and tactics by choosing where to attack, not the same choke-point shit taspring maps has mostly been running around about..

Desert maps are somehow good on the eyes. Nice work!
