Looking for a new mod

Post by Betalord »

We would need another moderator in the lobby, mostly in the US time zone as there is a lack of them during that time. The ideal time zone you should be from is GMT-10 (UTC-10, PST-2) or so. If you think you're the right person for it, send a mail to springlobby@clan-sy.com containing your lobby nickname, time zone you're from and your age.

I dont mind filling the gap as I'm on at those times these days, but I doubt I'll ever get anything.

We need someone from Hawaii as a moderator :P

It's unfair, when I stay up late moderating I want to moderate Japanese and other far eastern people. What's the point of being awake at 5PM in their timezone if there's no eastern culture to moderate? It's always bad Americans staying up too late past their bedtimes. Clearly there is something wrong with this picture.

The gap we're looking to increase moderator population in is about 11:00PM GMT to 7:AM GMT. PST that's about 4PM to midnight, which isn't bad, but it would be even more comfortable at 2-10PM in the Hawaiian timezone, although I'm not sure how many long standing Hawaiians we have...

Why don't you just add a few people who are known to be responsible rather than looking for someone based entirely on time zone.

It makes sense to add people who contribute to spring regularly (They are the least likely ones to abuse their power because they obviously want to stay involved with the spring community.)

You might as well add AF as a mod, he has put a hell a lot of work into spring and he is responsible/online a lot.

With timezone as the only requirement, even I could apply. :-)

It isn't the only requirement, it's the time slot we're needing to fill. We don't appoint people to moderate because it's some privilege we need people on to fill certain times. If you're running a game studio and you need more artists you don't hire more coders instead just because the coders are really good at coding.

"So and so has done alot of work, therefore they deserve moderation rights" is a VERY bad way to do things. I've seen it literally kill communities before. While dedication and responsibility to spring is definitely a major factor, equally important to the process of deciding who is a good moderator candidate are character traits, like the ability to not be offended or easily angered and the a propriety to not form grudges against people. Good judges of character and people with a good sense of humor are also preferable. The time someone can be available is simply a requirement because the problem right now is not that we don't have enough moderators in general, we have a specific nightly period of time where no moderators are on and the result is usually that most of our reports and trouble come out of that period of time since no mods are on to instantly respond to the problems as they happen.

This comparison makes very little sense (if any). I'm not saying people deserve to be mods just because they contribute; I'm saying that people who contribute are more likely to be responsible.

Anyways it seems we agree on the key points so theres no need for any conflict ;)

I believe this issue is too controversial. It seems swiftspear is the only one who is actually capable of doing this, and I believe he prefers selecting people rather than asking for volunteers which is inviting the sort of people who should be moderated ratehr than made moderators to come forth.
