Looking for prettier units?

Post by Webbie »

While we're all waiting for the big remodelling project (great job to those who are working on it by the way), on a whim, I tried the Evolva models, and they work great.

We're talking about minor aesthetic changes here, most noticeably to the Fido, Zeus, Flash and Core Commander, but improvements nonetheless. In closeups the units look noticeably better.

Be warned that I have no idea as to whether or not they work in multiplayer mode, but I don't see why they wouldn't, as they're just models (no actual unit data is changed).

The upgraded models are available from the Evolva site, but they come individually in a collection of 25 or so zip files, and are a pain in the ass to extract, so i've bundled the whole shebang into the one zip file that rules them all, so you can save wear and tear on your mouse.

To install, extract the contents of the zip file into a folder called Objects3D inside the Spring directory.

Edit: larger pack of Evolva models put together by zwzsg for those of you too lazy to read.

Hotlink? I'm offended. Everything in that post is hosted on my webspace.

Edit: Except for the link to the Evolva site itself.

TAAN site was butchered and most of it contents rendered unavaible. The Evolva projet was much more advanced than that.

Here is a file containing 146 improved models. Half of them are corpse, but it is sill much more complete than what you can get now from TAAN site or webbie's mirror.

It seem that online, you can play against people who don't have it, however, the chat was flooded with error synch message, I could see and interact with the other player units, but I've not played a full game, so tread with caution.

I noticed that too. I wonder what M3G's up to? That site redesign must've taken ages, to just abandon it with only half the content is a shame.

Yes. The chat box is flooded by "error synch" message, but you can still play fine.

It's possible that it cause a few bugs and crashes, but I was able to play a long and good game against two people only one of whom at the evolva models, so I consider it works.

Intresting. I know their site is messed up. Their older site had a link to a zip file contaning craploud of redone models, but you can no longer find that zip file. Plus they only offer about 15 or so redone units.

I know they have done more, but I would have to upload the zip somewhere.
