Suggestions.

Post by The Legacy »

I was playing my first game of Spring ever, and I have found some major issues while playing. Here's a few suggestions that you could use for your next patch:

1. Newbie mode for multiplayer.

I was having a hell of a time in both TA, and in Spring, by getting beaten up by other players. There should be some sort of mutual 'invulnerability' mode that can be automatically deactivated once you reach a certain timelimit or army strength.

2. Cheats.

Cheats would be a nice addition for those new players.

3. Energy production/drain markers.

Although you can see the total drain and build, you can't see individual drains per unit or structure.

4. Start positions via minimap.

I was greatly confused before, so perhaps adding the start position feature to the minimap would be a good idea. Plus, all starting positions should be shown, to prevent overlap.

5. Repair the tech tree.

I saw how some units were in slots where they shouldn't be (like the Commander building some of the level 2 buildings. Changing this could prevent some issues, although I prefer the new format in some ways. o_O

6. Make the camera controls more intuitive.

From other game experiences, using the CTRL key instead of the third-mouse-button button (Dawn of War for example) to pan the view would be much better. A 'default view' button to reset the view would also be a good idea.

7. Add better instructions to new maps and mods!

If I wasn't as intuitive as I was from making and using mods, I highly doubt I could have installed the new maps and mods.

Overall though, GOOD WORK! :D

Good lord, read the forums man. I'm not even going to touch most of your points.

Although, 1 and 2 can be handled by playing single player and learning the way of the game.

So play with yourself for awhile and you might get good at it.

Il would like a way to speed up scorlling. Cause always pressing shift is annoying. (and not so very fast)

1. I hope that at some time they implement "buildtime", and "can't go far before buildtime is finished." Optional and chosen in battlerroom.

2. .Cheats then .atm (maybe others)

3. Mouse over unit or structure, it show its individual drains and production. Just like in TA btw.

5. The SY shipped Spring with XTA, their old "rebalancing" mod. Get my ota_settings_for_spring_patch from here if you don't like XTA.

6. I usually just ctrl middle click once and then it's like in TA for the rest of the game.

7. I think that they hadn't time to add proper handling of mods for the first release, but that they're working on it.[/quote]

You can not have anything selected. If you do, the info shown will be from the selected unit.

Would you better like a toggle-able label above all units' heads?

For #1, a better way to learn than playing single would be to buddy up with a good player using the Ally box. That way, you can see how he handles resource expansion and base assaults and such while being an active part of the game.

About 1:

- Play offline alone, by running spring.exe and choosing script comm 1k/1k or commanders.
- Make yourself a heavily defended base, while the other commander do nothing since there's no AI yet.
- Type .cheat then .team 1
- Make another heavily defended base, for the other side
- Press F8
- Leave

- Run the spring lobby
- Ask for game
- While you await for others to reply, run spring.exe, choose script "load test", and alt tab when the game has loaded and is saying "waiting for others"
- When someone agree to play you, tell him to join via IP, giving your own IP.
- If all goes well, you now both start the game with heavily defended bases, able to give you some theorical invulnerability or unfair bonus for as long as the defense/attack ratio in your savegame permits. Just be fair in your base creation or people will be angry.

Aha, figured it out. The game DOES show drain and creation of resources in game. It was just hidden by my taskbar. Hmm...o_O
