Re: Newcomer

I'm not following your explanation. I recognize that the melee was most likely for the non-TA mods (i.e. Gundam or Star Wars). But, I guess I am trying to understand (and you'll have to be patient with my apparent ignorance) -- but why would you NOT try to implement a melee system in TA-esque mods? ...

Re: Newcomer

So are we looking for someone to begin by providing a framework for Melee? I can certainly provide my thoughts on that -- as I have spent some time thinking about this over the years. That said, H2H combat probably needs to be clearly defined versus general Melee -- because one could even argue, esp...

Re: Networking rewrite, need help

I realize this thread is idle -- but I was just taking an interest to reading it. Recognizing that this isn't really a topic about the code -- but if additional optimization can be done from a network perspective. Has someone measured the network packet traffic off of a Spring server and applied the...

Re: Project Darkstar -- potential technology platform for Spring

The news of Oracle buying Sun hopefully shouldn't hinder Sun's open source directives other than promoting future communities. Oracle has no real line of sight into the gaming space -- so I doubt they will touch this one. I understand that a heavy amount of investment in time and effort have already...

Re: Project Darkstar -- potential technology platform for Spring

Fair enough -- thought the highly scalable cross-platform optimized back-end that Darkstar presented might have some future value to the effort.

Laser Targeting for Units

Guys, I was asked to redirect this topic to the LUA forums in hopes to get some clarification if this has been thought out. First of all, I'm new to the forums. Please forgive me if this has already been hashed through (but I did a search -- and to the best of my knowledge did not see it discussed)....

Re: Project Darkstar -- potential technology platform for Spring

First of all, while the Project Darkstar platform is Java -- there are C++/C APIs for it. From what I understand, Sun is actively trying to hammer out the docs and sample code for this to help people understand how it interfaces with Java. So, we really aren't talking about re-writes into Java (if t...

Laser Targeting as a gameplay feature for units

Guys, I'm new to the forums. Please forgive me if this has already been hashed through (but I did a search -- and to the best of my knowledge did not see it discussed). I know I had posted this years ago on the TA-mods discussion (before the inception of TA-spring). I am wondering if any of the mods...

Project Darkstar -- potential technology platform for Spring

Hey guys, I am new to this forum -- but not new to TA or TA-spring. I'm also linked into the gaming industry from a technology perspective (software/hosting). I recently posted on the AI forums on a topic about an open source lounge and community effort (dated from way back to 2006). I had recommend...

Re: Proposal: Open Game Lounge System / Community

Hey guys, I am new to this forum -- but not new to TA or TA-spring. I'm also linked into the gaming industry from a technology perspective (software/hosting). May I recommend that you adopt Sun's open source Gaming Server for this task. Its code-named Project Darkstar and it is being evaluated by a ...

Max Annihilation and NOTA

Hey guys, I'm a very old TA and TA-mods player from the 90s. I've been following TA-Spring for several years now -- but I guess I'm considering trying a couple of the mods that may potentially suite my style of gameplay. The two that come to mind our NOTA and Max Annihilation. Can someone point me i...
