Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Well, I haven't gotten anything done, mainly the reason I'm not exactly ready to even begin to get it done. That's the reason my first posts didn't refer anything to my project; because right now, I just have a ton of non-technical questions (don't get me started on the technical ones, and you know ...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Uhh... chill dude. What got you so aggressive all of a sudden? Everything's alright. I'm not forcing you or anyone to work for me or anything. Just asking questions. So I'm sorry if I got off on the wrong foot, wherever that was. Meh, my art sucks 'cause... well I haven't really made anything yet. N...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Tsk tsk tsk... These answers already seem to be biased as results to my previous posts, what with continual references IP and age, almost as if everyone is conspiring to let me down... instead of the neutral, "back to basics" answers I was asking for so others reading this could be helped ...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Well, the basic question was, "How does a non-programmer go about making a team, whether it's me, or someone else?" So far all the answers I get here are how to program a game, but not the process of making a team. Not all games were started by programmers of course, and many are made by p...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Too unlikely, because I've already made a vow for that to be my current goal in life for... some reason. However, I value the time you've offered to really show me the extent of Spring's capabilities. I've checked some other engines, and perhaps they would work better for this. But... take a look at...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
True, true, all of you, I'm really just taking shots out into the dark here, to see what's possible with Spring while vaguely inferring my project idea. I'm trying to familiarize myself with all the possible engines I could use, and I first thought of Spring because it's prepackaged as an RTS engine...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
No, no, I understand. When I meant that, I meant it as in how the servers send data to each machine.
However, now I know how the multiplayer works on Spring, which is a good detail.

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Ahh... very interesting details. So apparently the problems of manual control on Spring is serverside instead of a problem in the engine itself... Very interesting, thanks. Oh, and PicassoCT... you haven't answered me... how did you find out who I was? Did you work for Epic Adventure War RTS or did ...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
I want to know the right folks first, perhaps you guys know anyone I might be interested in? (P.S. Is it possible to have a shooter in Spring or does the engine limit that? And what about physics? I've heard that Spring technically works like a 2D plane, so are jumping units possible?) Well so far ...

Re: Digital Art and Photoshop
Depends on what you want to make. Want to make a painting or drawing? A tablet would be great help, but I've gone without those and it works fine. If you're trying to make slick, clean lineart, try using the pen tool and then stroke/fill the path. At first using the pen tool will feel weird, but bas...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
to be honest, if you are a artists.. start out as a map-maker. Its relatively easy, you will impress a lot of people when you release one that is good and you get to learn some internals. I started out that way. Also post art: http://static.spore.com/static/thumb/500/904/996/500904996101.png Oh and...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
But what do you mean "you are instantly alienating a significant subset of qualified contributors"? Many of the people qualified to help you will avoid helping you because they don't want to waste their efforts helping someone who's project is likely to get an orbital C&D... you know ...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
I'm a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan but that's not going to help you because I'm just a parasite who hangs around the forums trying to seem important. Also, also.... if you are planning on making a game based on an existing Intellectual Property in any sense other than "in the spirit of" yo...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Well, this is my first ever post 'round these parts... Anyways, I'm an artist, however I can't program, but I have a dream of making an RTS game, and I can make the art and textures. If you want to build up a team, what's the general etiquette and norms here on how to ask people to join your projec...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Ahh I see... this information has been quite useful.
Well, these early stages are just for me to understand the community first, and if I'm to help out around here, does anyone know where there are Sonic fans around here? That question will make sense later on...

Re: Etiquette for non-programmers who want to make a game?
Why not start with helping out an existing project with modeling (such as BAR or Zero K)? This will help you understand how to actually get assets into a game, and also start building a rapport so people in the community would more likly help you. I see, I see... Well, in that case, do you know any...
