Summary0006195: 104.0.1-1686-g9a24a29 develop Default UI elements flicker
DescriptionThe minimap, resource bars, and /gameinfo popup all flicker on develop. Text does not flicker (the tooltip, /fps, /speed, and /info). I have been unable to test the command menu.

The flickering consists of UI elements disappearing for a fraction of a second. It recurred on average about once every three seconds. The flickering of the different UI elements does not appear to be correlated.

The flickering stops permanently as soon as I capture the Spring window in OBS (video recording software). It does not restart once I close OBS.
Additional InformationI ran the skeleton game with the luaUI and luarules folders deleted. https://github.com/SpringCabal/SkeletonGame

My mistake, the flickering does appear to be correlated. All three UI elements disappear at the same time.

I managed to record it https://youtu.be/Ul4dpNV3eQY

Does https://springrts.com/dl/buildbot/default/tribuf/104.0.1-1696-gf8472ac/win32/ also have flickering UI elements?

~0019923

Google_Frog (reporter)

It does: https://youtu.be/N14JuF5va0s

The flicker does not appear to have changed. I also had and still have flickerings of what look like large LaserCannon sprites when units fire, but could not record them.

Next question: does it flicker when no units are selected / no order menu is drawn?

Google_Frog (reporter)

Yes.

Add

  DebugGL = 1
  DebugGLStacktraces = 1

to your springsettings.cfg and attach an infolog, the driver might know something I don't. This is non-reproducable so far.

Google_Frog (reporter)

Those settings make Spring hang near the end of loading.

Here it is with the gameside LuaIntro folder deleted.

This particular warning isn't issued by my driver, but I've hidden it in 1703-gf168656. Build will be available in a minute or so.

104.0.1-1707-g0317b7f has the same flickering but the infolog doesn't say much. Here is a list of things that I have noticed flicker:
 * Minimap
 * Resource bar
 * Command panel
 * /gameinfo
 * The selection squares drawn below units
 * The mouse cursor sometimes flashes to be around 800x800 drawn at (0,0). It only does this when the cursor is representing a command.
 * Shooting LaserCannons causes pointy yellow billboards to appear in the world.

This was a good example of radically divergent driver behavior across platforms.
