| Summary | 0001934: Questionable performance | ||||
| Description | Hi, My previous issue was resolved by turning off FPSmanager. However, I have another issue facing me. I was recently playing a game on Core Prime Industrial Area, and the FPS was quite good, until it began to drop, eventually reaching 1-3. I had a few hundred Banshees, but my GFX card (8400M GS) should have been able to handle 1200x800, all settings on medium. The most curious thing was that near the end of the match, there was one glitched AI enemy commander that was just standing there, not doing anything. I did not know where he was, but the FPS was at a maximum 3. However, just when my computer ally hunted the last commander down and killed him, the FPS immediately shot up to 20-30. Why did this happen? Thanks! | ||||

Next time enable profiler by pressing Alt+B combination and watch which block is eating your CPU. Sudden FPS drop can be video driver problem or some extra heavy effect. About AI glitch it is evidently not concerning Spring. Also it is a bad habit to mix different problems in one report. |
The AI glitch isn't really the big issue, but rather one of the causes behind the issue. I'll try the Alt+B thing, but what will the blocks mean? |
Oh and also, the AI bug results in one commander being uncontrolled, saying "Click here to take 1 unit(s)" |
EDIT: It turns out the sim time and the cpu load are both very very high. |

You can edit your old messages. > It turns out the sim time and the cpu load are both very very high. Spring first uses cpu to compute sim and uses the rest for rendering. The more time it takes to compute sim the less time for rendering -> lower fps. A high sim time/cpu load indicates you reached the limit of what your CPU can do. |
I see. That may explain why it's not actually a low fps, but just constant stuttering, with smoothness for a second in between. |
If you have dual core or better, try the multithreaded executable for smoother fps http://springrts.com/wiki/OtherDownloads |

Hmm... It is quite strange, because I can run supreme commander and Crysis with my processor right now. Maybe because Spring uses that unique compute-sim thing... My processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 (2.00Ghz). |

btw, it would help if you could attach infolog.txt, and if not, at least tell us which AI it was. also, spring will get slower the more units there are, both due to sim time and CPU time used by AIs (as they will have more to look at). there are also other issues but... frankly, this report is just too unspecific, i propose to close it, and if you have a really clear idea of something being wrong, like 1 FPS with 10 units on the field with a good PC (like yours), then open a new one. |
