Aircraft have a massive problem...

Post by Fanger »

Regular Aircraft, not gunships/bombers/transports, but regular aircraft cannot land, their landing protocol is bugged to hell. How do you best notice this, give them fuel they will never be able to land at the airpad, instead they spend 20 minutes flying in circles above it. This means these types of aircraft cannot be used in conjuction with fuel. There must be some way to improve this behavior. If you guys need a demo of this silly ness I will provide one, otherwise simply take any mod with an airpad and a aircraft make the aircraft have a small number of fuel and a normal aircraft flight craft and tell it to fly around till it runs out of fuel and then watch the farce as it tries to land on the pad.. Never happens

I've noticed this too. I even mentioned it in one of the threads for the .73 beta. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the cruise altitude of the plane since I've only noticed it on high altitude bombers. Try setting it to below 400 (i'm not sure exactly, it's somewhere aroudn the 400 range). There's also another simular bug where planes circle around forever where they run out of fuel instead of returning to a repair pad. It only happens on the larger maps such as supreme battlefield when they are a good distance away from your base. They don't fight and you can't give them any commands. It really sucks since there's nothing you can do other than self destruct them.

In the new AA (P variant) there is a new large bomber and a flying aircraft carrier. Suddendly the bomber was stuck to the carrier and I was like WTF?
Then I noticed it had just "docked" with the carrier to refuel. So sometimes it seems to work.
Oh, btw: aircrafts with empty fuel can still fly in fps mode
circle around forever where they run out of fuel instead of returning to a repair pad.
I think they try to land if they have no more fuel (like their engine is stopped and they have to make a crashlanding or something)
But as you know, spring aircrafts have a hard time to find a landing zone so if the engine tells them: "your fueltank is empty, go and crashland" the plane says "lol ok I'll just search for a nice spot"

no it has nothing to do with bombers or cruise alt at least I dont think its cruise alt.. its regular aircraft they cant seem to land on pads properly, they try to land but dont they instead just circle around retardedly for an indefinate period of time never actually landing even though they have no fuel left..

I'm just curious, but which mod is this? I'd like to take a look at it.

probably something to do with not being able to line up properly and having to endlessly go forwards...

maybe if aircraft had some kind of code that enabled them to slow down/stop/turn like a gunship if two conditions are true:
1) the aircraft is near a repairpad that it can land on.
2) the aircraft is trying to land at the time.

That should hopefully sort it, and its fine for 'realism' (in case anyone cares) since all aircraft are VTOL anyways so they should technically be able to hover for a little bit to land.
