Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sounds
I will need stuff that sounds like standard shell fired weaponry. I definitely will need energy weapons in the future but the standard rifle, artillery cannons, miniguns etc. Anyone know of a good person who does sound effects and doesn't charge terribly much for them?

You need to specify on how much you're willing to spend on sounds then.
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sou
Why? are you going to offer to make them? It doesn't matter how much I want to spend I was just asking for suggestions. Say for example I am trying to get a licensing clarification from sounddogs.com
brotip: looks unlikey spring projects can purchase the usage of sounds at a reasonable price(IE below 50-80$ per sound)

Truth be told, I don't know what website that you have been, nor what quality that you deem acceptable. The best I could think of is offering payment to a sound engineer.
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sou
smoth I recorded some sounds for prototype/jam games of my own, while not very high quality they're really fun to make, so I'll suggest that you just try to create an effect or two yourself and see how that goes.
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sou
I have made many but I think they sound bad.

It might be worth a poke around the ZK forum (if they're cool with you recruiting there). I know I've seen sound guys posting around there more than a few times recently. I believe one in particular made some new sounds for ZK last year but I can't remember the name.
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sou
If you're looking to get someone for cash, this exists.
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sou
its actually worth doing it oneself, cause only then you will have one consistent soundstyle..
one guy uses slight echo, other one doesent and suddenly they are off.. you can never tell afterwards why, but your sound senses will be tingling...
also do you want atomic sounds (Gun Firing) or assembles (Gun Firing, Shell clonking; Reload Mechanism cachiinging?)
Samples are great to hear but in the long run, the sound unrealistic monotonos (every shell going the same way?
Its not easy.. especially if you want to do Pilot voices.
10.000 times "Im on it, Chief" make your mind go gargle.
Interlocking comchatter makes for funny gags.
"There is no escape now-"
"For my father the king".
Arthas, WC3
Another great thing i found is that making shortstorys that the units tell when idling are a great way to build atmo..
"we were on that crystall marble, called DrahS Prahs, it was the third watch, pitch black. When suddenly, there were strange lights in the glassglaciers below us. At first we thought our minds had us going -
but after a while, one of use pressed his head against the crystalls and found out-
they were coming. You could feel the Mechstepvibes, and they were new enough, not to turn off the lights on there vehicles..
What happend to them?
Well im here to tell the tale, they aint!"

Has many selections of guns sounds along with some choices of sounds from different studios for the same gun.
However, the sound may come in lossy formats like mp3.
And I believe they have reasonable terms of licensing from brief skimming through few words of their terms. But terms may vary by studio or sound author.

That is actually not true- they are excellent base material - you can remix quite some stuff from that.smoth wrote:about 6 years ago and again before i even made this post I went through that and the sites listed in the sticky as well. the freesound site largely has rubbish sounds.
Seriously: Smoth do you still need sounds?
Re: Looking for a sound guy to make some explosions/shot sounds
Always. I can remix mine all day but they suck.
Go play EVO, forb has awesome sounds!
