ok now wtf was that

Three messages in less than a second, seems reasonable to me. Whip the fast typers the keep them in shape.

He was muted for spamming, not for being a newb. Review your topic title, disgracefully misleading!
Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
the fastest recorded typing speed in the world wouldn't get you muted if you used fairly normal sentences.Jazcash wrote:Whip the fast typers the keep them in shape.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Especially on Spring.[14:41:20] <Afiq> hey

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
the third sentence that same *second* caused it
I type upwards of 100wpm and I couldn't type "hey" then "I'm a newbie" then another sentence in under a second.

you can if you lag towards the server, then you can get 10 messages or more in the same second

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
I think this calls for Uberserver to be pointed at.

we can't tell the difference between that and simply pasting ten messages... however, both are spam.scifi wrote:you can if you lag towards the server, then you can get 10 messages or more in the same second
lag would have the same effect with tasserver's chanservJazcash wrote:I think this calls for Uberserver to be pointed at.

I could write an entire post like this! It allows newlines and magic and seriously what, it's pretty magical. wrote:hi

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
not blaming the server, in fact the new server is a lot better
just think that 3 lines is a bit off a harsh limit, but anyways taserver was worse in these maters, i recall one time posting 12 line messages in one second by mistake.
Still the message could be altered, example "you have been muted, for spaming, if your new to spring type /j #help and /j #newbies and ask for help there".
something like that fixes this, but i dont think its that big of a problem though.

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
It seems entirely plausible if the lag is on the user's end. (wifi lagged for a second, and packets were queued).
Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
On a slightly relevant note, can we have "/me" in PM's please?
Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
The last thing we need is new accounts coming to spam hte place up! hooray for uberserver. Perhaps, a tad overzealous vs this guy though >.<
Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
If you are lagging and type multiple lines, they will come up at the same time. Happens to me all the time, since I have shit internet.

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
you've gotta be lagging at least 8 seconds and that's assuming you type over 100wpm
someone who types 40-50wpm (common) would probably take 20+ seconds of lag (and typing several things while not noticing they weren't being said)
we realllly can't tell the difference between that and spam

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
Whenever I am downloading something, I frequently get 5-15 seconds lag.
Maybe simply allow a max of 3 lines pasted before taking the time delay into account? Should fix most of the issues, while actually killing off the spammers.

Re: #main secretly wants to scare off all newbs :<
then people could safely drop three lines of spam anytime they wanted
