Huge slowdown with Outline widget

Post by reign1 »

As the title says, although I would like to use the Outline widget, I experience a massive slowdown whenever I enable it (although it does work). I have an ati x1900xtx. Is there a spring setting that may be causing this slowdown when used in conjunction with the outline shader? Or possibly a setting in the ati control panel that's doing it? Or is the shader not properly supported by ati cards? Thanks in advance for any help.

Some external shaders are very expensive to run, especially on older hardware, iirc this is the case with the outline shader :(
(I tried it and it really ate up my fps too)

Ah that's what I was afraid of. Oh well, about time to upgrade anyway.

Reign, Beherith has 8 series Nvidia graphics card, so don't feel bad about it.

Unless you want some UB3R 4.0 Pixelshader support (if they even have that yet) then Outline Shader is probably not going to work.

The creator most likely made the widget on an alienware PC.

Considering the cost of the PC's themselves, I find them pretty well balanced and good.

I'm actually a bit insulted you even mentioned that, Alienware makes legitmate gaming PC's

yeah, and so do I :)
my computer is well above an entry-level alienware, and I built it myself.

alienware doesn't mean best, it just means an alien-styled case and a list of possible components.

I built my machine for £800 then saw an equivalently priced machine with a smaller hard drive and monitor on alienware for £2000. At the time I had the 8800 and the alienware machines hadn't even updated their specs to take account of the new line of gfx cards.

They sound cool but you can build better for cheaper on your own, and building form components isn't hard. Take the card, slot it in the slot, if it doesn't go in that slot then it wont fit in that slot, simple as. Screw into place, check connections are tight and turn on. The only dodgy bit is figuring out which components are best performance for price, all you gotta do is ask on the forums for reccomendations there.
