DDS skbox help...

Post by aGorm »

Hi guys i posted this in help but had a feeling it would get ignored... so...

Ok, this is probablie just me... but i cant see the skybox in my map! I know its loading the skybox due to a lack of clouds and the fact its reflected onto the sea (that is to say the skybox is reflected in teh water), however when you look up everything is purple (due to purple fog) or blue (when i removed the fog tag and i assume it defalted to blue fog) and I cant see the sky I made. However i have seen grabs of it working fine and danndy on others maps, so a little help would be most appreciated. Have I missed a tag or somthing?

What the hell Have I done rong??

Is the .dds in your spring\maps directory or is it packed within the maps .sd7 file? the first time I attempted to use a skybox i got a blank grey sky because I had the .dds compressed in with the map itself.
Hope this helps..

Havnt tried on any other maps, but on Core Prime the sky is pure white for me. Instead of the star filled black sky its ment to have. Quite disturbing.

That's annoying. I wonder what's the proportion of players who don't see skyboxes.

Just thought I'd explane what I thinks wrong...

The skybox definatly loads into the game, because it is REFELECTED in teh water.

But the fog effect seems to blot out the actully sky box itself, as if the sky box is to far away to be seen.
Surly the fog should fad out top the sky box, not to a set colour, and then use teh set colour if your facing teh ground.

Well My problem might be a bit different from aGorm's. I cant tell, as my GFX card is to crap to render reflections anyway. Might be a seperate problem, might not be.

Thats interesting because fog works normally for me with a skybox and I would guess for zwzsg as well.
Rendering the sky reflection and not the sky  that's weird, zwzsg does your graphics card support reflective water? mine does not, I wonder if its related somehowe considering aGorm has a card that does by the sound of it.

Hay man, you just know if I'm gonna have a problem its going to be a bloody weird one.

:: A little phlosophy ::

If you know alot about computers you will 1) get asked to fix less knowedgable peoples simple computer problems and told "woo, how'd you fix that in 5 mins?"
2) however because you can fix these problems so fast your computer gets spitfull and give you a problem that
a) no one else has ever had ever
b) a problem that will cost next months wages to solve
c) both of the above

This is a typical case a), untill someone say's its a problem with your graphics card, and then its a type c)

My 3D card doesn't support reflective water, doesn't support shadow, but does support SkyBoxes.

cool! however does this mean that to use the map it will be best to wait till the next release? Atleast that will give me time to sort it out and have a play test...
