Spring Boredom
Is it because of the amount of hours spent in spring or something else?
I think fine tuning BA is a bad idea. It seemed as though when units were a little more off balance, people had more fun playing it. Now that its 'perfectly' (actually pretty evenly) balanced, people are getting bored with it.
Of course we could move onto CA. But CA isn't the mainstream mod and you are limiting yourself in the amount of players available at any given time.
So is it just me or has the mod gotten boring? Maybe its time to retire, like it seems everyone else is doing.

Try and stick around until the big new content mods appear, namely s44, sws and pure (there are many others, but those are the main ones off the top of my head at the moment, apologies to ones I have left out). We could use veteran springers like yourselves to put our games (once finished, not beta testing) through their paces, and to provide for a solid skilled gamer pool for our games... Hopefully we can bring more 'spice' to your Spring gaming...
Re: Spring Boredom
I think this is a personal thing scratch, you'll get bored of a game if you play it long enough. Just the nature of the beast- try 1v1's, a new mod, or learning a new map type, tactic or tech tree.
Really, these games need a solid gameplay prototype out so they can start the probably very long process of making the game actually fun to play. If you dont have that, you dont have a game, TBH.
These games will need a lot of work until they are up to the standard of the OTA mods. 10 years of fine tuning and development of a solid game to begin with, thats a lot of catch up. The OTA mods also evolve over time, the open source development style gives a sort of survival of the fittest atmosphere- something a closed source mod doesnt have in its favour.Try and stick around until the big new content mods appear, namely s44, sws and pure (there are many others)

Dunno, I limit myself to CA and really aren't out of games. Usually joining an empty autohost gets the ball rolling very quickly - within 2-3 mins a swam turns up.
If no, just PM a random player with an invitation, repeat until you get one, and there you go.

This is why I hate joining the lobby.Vadi wrote: If no, just PM a random player with an invitation, repeat until you get one, and there you go.
Fucking spammers everywhere, going 'JOIN MY GAME' or 'GET CA'.
Quit it already. If I want to join a game, I'll join one. If I want to get CA I'll get it. I don't need you breathing down my neck and getting on my case.

Re: Spring Boredom
That is fair enough Saktoth - but the query of the thread was regarding boredom with BA, which is arguably just a tweaked version of what TA did 10 years ago. Therefore, yes, while we can hardly hope to be as finely tweaked as a 10 year old game, we can also bring a lot more new stuff to the table then BA is able too as well, answering the original posters question (in my mind anyway).
Re: Spring Boredom
What do you think #main is for, other than arranging games?Hobo Joe wrote:This is why I hate joining the lobby.

Re: Spring Boredom
Play less 8v8 DSD and you'll still find BA to be a dynamic and interesting game.
Re: Spring Boredom
try 1v1 on every map, its pretty fun, and actually that is where BA is finetuned for!

Re: Spring Boredom
There's this new mod out there, called Zexy Annihilation.
It's actually pretty fun... It's TA simplified: 4 levels of Arm K-bots (some new), only one "Mortar" LRPC (actully more like Medium-RPC) defence at lvl0, morphing for the com (you don't have a d-gun right from the start), the mexes and the cons.
Makes for pretty intense games on small maps.
One thing I find a little bit wierd is the economic system - you're more limited by your buildpower than the ressources available meaning that you have to build lots of factories and workers (no nanoturrets).
The speciall effects are nice too.

Yep I've burnt out on Spring several times over now and still always find myself returning and enjoying it again after a short break.
Like matt/noize say try playing BA on maps other than shitty 6v6/8v8 DSD games and it's a lot more fun. 1v1 is really enjoyable provided you are willing to put some time into learning it (dont expect to enjoy 1v1 for the first few games as you'll probably be dominated in <10 min games constantly, unless you can find people to play with who are similar skill).
One thing that also brings me back to spring is just to keep in touch with other players that I'm friendly with in Spring. Knowing other players and staying in touch/playing with them is a good way to keep things interesting and fun.

There's a difference between a polite request and an intrusive order, thanks.

I hate random idiots PMing me going "OMG JOIN MY GAME" completely out the fucking blue. Especially when I'm playing something else and have alerts enabled and have to alt-tab to deal with it and ugghh.Vadi wrote:Dunno, I limit myself to CA and really aren't out of games. Chill, everybody knows your anger management by now and newbies learn it quick.
Re: Spring Boredom
rolling players in 1v1 or other clans in team matches every single time without much effort gets boring at some point.
Re: Spring Boredom
I heard there is a barbecue party going on around here...
