(kinda) New Map: Verdant

Post by ralphie »

Ok so it's been kicking around a while now, but being mostly happy with the latest version I figured it can have a "new map" thread now :P

It's 5v5, 16x16, top left vs bottom right.

I'm aiming for a map where kbots and vehicles are both viable without setting up a predefined "bots here, veh here", and to focus the action into a small enough area players can help each other out.

I think i've mostly achieved this, so here it is...

Hi mate..please make those metal spots that are on the island worth more than the general metal spots on the map.. cause otherwise they wont be worth the fight over them....maybe make em twice as good? might encourage people to even build hovers ...or planes to control those zones...eve if you dont make these changes ..the map owns..its awsome.. GJ.

Looks like a v.nice design, the only problem is its rather low-quality graphics-wise. But oh well, still looks like it plays well.

Do you think you could make an S44 version?

Just from the screenshots alone i get the sensation that it will FEEL larger than 16x16. it simply looks epic! :D

I'm fairly ignorant of l3dt beyond pushing buttons, so that's as good as it gets from me. On the bright side, instead of a 50mg map nobody plays, it's only a 10mb map nobody plays :P

It looks great at the distance we play 1944 at. Just isn't hot for screenshots.

I honestly don't give a shit about the texture quality. The gameplay on this sucker rocks.

And Gameplay is King.

Smaller version of it (like 10x10)with a bit changed metal (evenly spread around map) spots for 1v1 games maybe :)?

I've only played a single game on this map, it was a 4v4, and it was very enjoyable. One of the most enjoyable team games I've played.

After playing I actually considered that the replay of said game would be great for a spring showcase. The variety of units combined with the ebb and flow of the game made it great fun to play and even more fun to spectate.

The front line was constantly changing in form, with each team controlling and losing territory throughout the match. There were gators, flash, hovers, t1 air, t2 air, tech 2 veh, kbots, nukes and some epic porc from each of the two corner players and several times over it seemed like one team was surely going to win then the other would hold off, fight back with a counter and regain overall control.

Moreover, the game featured a lot of team-coordinated attacks and general team work (helping allies counter raids, covering for them when they were almost crippled etc)

RALPHIE!!!

Do you think you could make an S44 version for us?!?!

What I meant by that was not a re-texture -- IMO the texture's fine as long as the gameplay is good (which it is). An "S44" version would only be editing the metal deposits on the map (basically making far less but making them give far more).

Or if you'd release the files you used, I could do it myself.
