Istash's battle plan sounds exsactly like this plan my freind used for TA:K

Build like five factories for the undead team. Build 100000000000 zombies. Sent them in a constant stream towards enemy. While enemy is trying to slow down stream of zombies, he builds MORE factories, and those send MORE zombies.

I actaully beat him by building lots of arrow towers. Every zombie that gets within twenty feet or so dies instantly. Once I got that, I started building my crack Zombie Extermination Team, of barbarians and cannoniers. Then I slowly moved out and started laying waste to the zombie hords.

In the end there were over 4 million dead zombies, 100 brave (and very dead) barbarians and cannonieers. Oh and two gods.

You know, TA:K wasn't all that bad.

Man I've really gone off topic, haven't I?

Again, this is advertising, if you were expecting anything else then Gas Powered Games has done you a huge favor by showing you the real world.
The reason critics hail it as being revolutionary is because they haven't played spring at all because its not a commercial product...
Ehr, I think the zoom levels are more than enough for critics to hail it as revolutionary, I've been bothered by that enough in RTS games. And don't think that critics aren't part of said advertising.

I've played a little of the demo and it's fun but nothing too amazing. I prefer Spring, but SupCom is a decent enough game that, after a few mods/patches/expansion packs could be a lot better. Nothing completely new, which is a shame because there is a ton of stuff that you could add that would look cool, like mobile bridges, but whatever.

Ehr. What?

Spring stole stuff from Total Annihilation and I'm pretty sure the extra zoom levels were added right after they were demonstrated it in Supreme Commander.

If we were going to complain games suck because they "stole" from other games then there isn't a single game on the market I wouldn't call shitty.
Spring had the zoom, TA did not have any form of zoom other than the resolution screen size.

Spring stole zoom to cursor from supcom, and supcom stole it from elsewhere. Dragging out formation was stolen from spring for example. Spring is the only RTS with multiple camera modes I'm aware of that isnt rts camera+fps mode camera, and the list goes on. You'd be surprised how many features spring has that OTA doesnt. Before spring I had never encountered an rts game that let you zoom out to view the entire map.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that great minds think alike and just because two geniuses have the SAME idea, it doesn't mean they're stealing from one another. Both the Yankspankers and Chris Taylor are crazy cool type peoples...and they both love the same type of game (TA). It might follow that they'd think of similar things.

Graaah!

For some reason, the demo is now downloading at 0.4kb/s, and is projected to take 261 hours to download. As it was at 67% when this happened (meaning I'd wasted a good deal of time to get to this point) I really don't want to have to try and redownload. It's projected to take around 5-6 hours at my ordinary download speed...

I hate it when that happens.

Do I have to restart the download (ie 'start again from the beginning') or will the speed pick itself up again?

Sometimes it does, sometimes it dosn't. Usually, when it happens to me, the drop in speed is just a precurser to dropping the connection entirely, but I don't know about your thingy.

It's been around 0.4kbs for about fifteen minutes now. The demo is actually downloading though

Ive started playing supcom a bit, its alright. The graphics in it are pretty damn nice, more "modern".

The biggest thing I noticed when playing it, the mouse button assignments are consistent.

Hmm. I've downloaded it, but I'm not getting any sound. I also have no clue what sound card/driver this computer has, which kinda complicates updating it. How, short of opening up the computer to find out, do I discover what sound card I have?

(I'm assuming Windows XP) Go to your control panel, make sure that it is in Classic Mode, then find system and open that up. Go to the Hardware tab, and open the device manager. Go down to "Sound, Video and Game Controllers". It should be listed there.

Okay...

Which do I choose?

We have the...
Audio Codecs
C-Media AC97 Audio Device
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Video Codecs

Which do I update? (I'm guessing the first one and the last one aren't sound drivers)

I would instead open device manager and look in there, itll list all of those but itll list your hardware itself and itll be obvious.

But

from looking at your list i think I know the problem:

C-Media AC97 Audio Device

It seems you never installed your drivers to begin with and XP reverted to the default standard generic driver which works in 0.2% of cases.

I' get soemthing that identifies your hardware then go look for the manufacturers driver online.

No it didn't, I'm pretty sure I recall seeing the videos from Supreme Commander *before* Spring added those zoom levels.

Because no mortal could ever think of that by himself.

Spring had it before supcom was even announced.

Go look in the downloads page at the old old spring released years before the first mention of supreme commander.

You could always zoom out to great distances in Spring, though the unit icons and the 'quick-zoom' tab was added later, post-Supcom
