Sorry, you can tell the height from that shot?? Or from my renedr for that matter? Get a grip man. :-) That is something im aware of, im never to sure wether I like the mountains I render, and I think that they will prob get some work tonight. I must point out that siad pic I posted is already Old, I have already touched up parts, It was purly a "work in progress".

Hopefully I can post a new even better pic tonight to put all the naysayers to rest.

(sorry for making you look daft IceXuick.... :-) )

Bah, my post got put on the end of page 4, so no one's ever going to see it. Anyway here it is again.
If you happen to look close at this picture, you will notice green and blue X's on the minimap.

I think it would be safe to say the green X's are metal patches, as the layout seems to me like a good metal layout.

The blue X's may be some kind of energy patch (IE geothermal). Given that there are only 4 such patches on each side this seems logical.
pls consider making the metal patches match the location in this -> picture

No worries, I saw it and took note, however this map wont have normal patches at others ursers wishes. And well, they will prob be as discused in the begin of the topic, but who knows... it wont be even remotly finished till the weekend anyway.

I will play test eitherway. With some trustabel people. Well... whoever i can find anyway...

La la la la la la... opp's how did this get here??

(Appolagies, I just noticed I resized them to non-widescreen, which means the mini map LOOKS rectangular... Its not, its a square.)

(::EDIT:: Sorry for poor compression quality to, I was being LAZY. I'll post High Quality ones if people want over the weekend.)

Check the folder for the rest...

It looks much smaller =(

And you can see the sand in the minimap.

Make the green lighter and make the sky pale sky blue so it fits with the water....

And really there's no need to squash widescreen images, show us thumbnails linking to big widescreen image sin all their glory!!!!!

btw is the sand meant to pop out of the water like that?

edit:: Now I've seen every single screenshot, the mountains arent high enough at all, they're brown?!?!?!?!?!?! White silver rocky grey!!!!! The green is far too dark and dull, make it looks bright and colourful like the supcom screenshots. Look at Noizes coast to coast!

Hey. I thought about a Spring version of the Supcom map earlier; it's good to see someone's doing it.

Now, some ideas;

Possibly either raise the water level, or remove those high patches of sand. You've got sandbanks there, and they don't look that nice.
Relating to the height, you might just want to smoothen the height difference between the sea and the beaches. It looks like cliffs at the moment. And you might want to make the grass a bit brighter.

Apart from that, it's quite good. It's a large map, which I like (Is it larger than Center-rock?) and it's got the idea. Also good is that you haven't copied the SC map EXACTLY; there's still a difference in layout and such.

Anyway; keep up the good work!

Gah, sorry guys, It was late, I was half asleep, so i forgot to mention that I needed to up the water level.

Things I did after I took the screenys:

Altered the sea level (but it still needs some work, need to fix some heightmap problems....)

Altered the trees to the nicer ones

Adjusted the lighting for the sky

Things to do now:
Fix the height map

Alter rock/cliff colours

Maybe lighten the grass a tad (but I refuse to use the same shade as teh sup com pics, it will look odd with Spring trees and plams)

Things Im gonna ignor:
Making the mountains higher... the heightmap is limited to 255 levels of grey, I cant make them heigher without messing the map up... plus I personly thimk that the height of the mountains is fine. SO there.

Make it bigger... I wont do this because its 28x28... your coment on the map being small is due to the fact in the mini map it looks like i got a 1/8 of the map on screen... however thats because my monitor happens to let me see such a large chunk of the map... (At my res I can fit the entire top half of smalldivide on my screen with ease...)

Belive me, its huge. It took 2 mins for one fleet to get to the other side. That bay area can fit about 100 ships in it with ease.

Anyway, I should get back to work! Next time ill just give some links to bigger pics. So there not warped.

Shores look too steep.

The shores of the supcom map was mostly beaches iirc, you have mostly cliffs. This detracts from gameplay and makes hovercraft and amphibous units unfeasible on this map since you can only attack in some places. :(

There is a mix of cliffs and beaches... If you look at it, there is a huge beach down one side of each players island, and a smaller beach on teh other side of there island... Also, I personly think having the middel section more cliffy is better as It leaves more room for differnt stratagies... And Whiles't this is being made by commite (It now has a new metal map, Ive changed colours, It has better tides) Im not totaly going to completly remake it just because its not totaly like the sup com map... If the supcom map realy was beaches the whole way round then it Sux in my opinion!! I mean, it might as well just be a big flat peice of land if theres no obsticlest!

Anyway, Ill hopefully release soonish.

Well, I have officaly stoped. I shall not be releasing a remake of this sup com map. I have spent to long doing what I have done, and quite frankly, its not worth the hassel.

However I will be releasing a map that looks somewhat like the one I have shown screens of (infact almost identical to it), however its not a remake of this map. Its just a map that happens to look Very similare.

If anyone wants to remake THIS map, please feel free to.

(PS, I have sorted the metal on my new map Min3mat... well, its in smaller spots and more spred out, and tides are better, and theres even 1 or two water metal spots... but as this isnt related to THIS map, I should prob talk no more about it here.)

I test played yesterday, and it's a very nice map, bigger than it seems to be in the screenshots. It has the usual low metal distributions though
